There was a slight chemical smell in the air, and his companion Mira beside him eagerly interrupted his thoughts.

"Are you sure you want to use this thing in that ceremony?" Mira's voice was full of doubt. She frowned and held a yellowed scroll between her fingers, looking extremely nervous.

"This is our only chance," Gerlin said firmly. "If we don't use the power of nitride crystals, we won't be able to resist the invasion of the dark forces. As you know, time waits for no one."

Mira sighed softly, worry flashing in her eyes. "I understand, but this is too risky. Have you ever thought about the consequences if you fail?"

"I've been thinking about it," Gerlin turned around, his eyes like cut ice crystals, calm and deep, "but we have no other choice. The whole village is waiting for our actions. Every day, new souls are swallowed by darkness."

"But where did this material come from? Don't underestimate its source." Mira clenched her fists, revealing a bit of anger. "We must ensure its safety and cannot take any risks."

"I know you care about this, but I also believe that there are deeper reasons behind all this." Gerling's fingers gently stroked the test tube, as if he could feel the power contained in it. He whispered, "I must know the truth. Only in this way can we win this struggle."

"The truth?" Mira raised her head, with a question in her eyes, "Have you discovered something?"

"Maybe." Gerling turned and walked to the window, staring at the mountains in the distance. The darkness there seemed like a surging tide, eroding everything wantonly. "Recently, I heard that someone was secretly performing some kind of ritual, which might be related to those missing people."

Mira's heartbeat quickened. "People disappeared because of that ritual? Do you have any evidence?"

"No. But I have a hunch that it might be related to nitride crystal. It is said that this material can enhance dark witchcraft and even control the consciousness of living beings." Gerlin's expression gradually became serious. "If we don't stop it in time, we may face unprecedented danger."

"Do you think we can find those spellcasters?" Mira softened her tone and began to think seriously.

"We need to find out where they are. We can send someone to investigate, or... I can go and investigate myself." Gerling's voice was calm, like a whirlpool hidden under the calm surface of a lake. He had made up his mind, and his eyes were shining with some unknown passion.

"I want to go too." Mira said without hesitation, "No matter what, we are all in the same boat. You can't let me stay here and wait for news."

"That's good. I need your help." Gerlin turned around with a smile on his face. "But you have to be prepared to face unknown challenges."

"Unknown?" Mira blinked at him. "I don't want to be involved in some deadly ritual."

"Of course, I will try my best to protect you." Gerlin's tone was serious, but with a hint of teasing.

The two smiled at each other, and the brief tense atmosphere turned into a relaxed exchange. Mira knew in her heart that Gerlin's choice was bound to change their fate, and she had no reason to back down.

"We need to make a detailed plan." Mira tried to calm herself down. "First, find the potential caster. Second, collect examples of the use of nitride crystals in dark rituals."

"Your thinking is very clear." Gerlin reached out and gently patted Mira's shoulder, "That's why I need you."

Mira smiled slightly, and the tension in her heart eased a little. She knew that with Gerlin's company, this difficult journey would be more powerful.

A few days later, in a secluded forest, Gelling finally found the trail of the dark wizards. The firelight in the shadows flickered, and whispers were heard. His heart beat faster, and he secretly reminded himself to stay calm.

"They're just ahead," he muttered to himself, moving closer to the gap between the trees, trying to keep himself hidden.

But at this moment, a low curse was heard.

"Power of darkness, all beings return to their places." The voice was as biting as a cold wind, and Gerlin felt uneasy. The atmosphere of this ceremony was obviously extremely dangerous.

He quickly took out the test tube and thought to himself: If I don't take action now, it will be too late.

Observing from his hiding place, Garlin saw three wizards in black robes sitting around the fire, holding various rare materials in their hands. Their purpose was obvious - they were performing a forbidden summoning.

Gerling knew that he had to send the message back immediately. He couldn't let Mira take the risk in vain. However, it was obviously not easy to retreat safely.
