The most powerful wizard in the magic world
Chapter 175 The Escaped Pigeon
The cold winter wind blew through the dead branches, bringing a bit of bone-chilling chill. He lowered his head and looked at the few small items he had collected in his hands - a rusty knife, a worn pocket watch, and a shiny copper coin. Although these things were not enough to exchange for many contribution points in the town, at least he felt that today's efforts were not in vain.
"Hey, are you still up there?" A warm voice came from under the tree, interrupting Gerling's thoughts. He looked up and saw his good friend Mars, who was looking around, as if looking for something.
"I'm here, Mars," Gerling responded, but there was a hint of fatigue in his voice.
"Come down quickly, let's go see the town market." Mars waved his hand, signaling him to hurry up.
Gerlin hesitated for a moment, knowing that if he didn't go to the market today, it would be difficult for him to collect the remaining contribution points in the next few days. He thought of the mysterious Gerlin Water, and his heart tightened: "Okay, I'll go down right away."
He slid down the tree carefully, but his foot slipped when he landed and he almost fell. Mars laughed: "You are such a cautious person! How about going to a safer place next time?"
"Don't talk about me. Look at you. You are so tall, why do you always go first?" Gerlin counterattacked with a smile.
Mars was slightly startled, then he laughed. "Isn't this for the sake of taking care of you? Otherwise, wouldn't it be a waste of your time if I go alone?"
"Okay, let's go." Gerlin waved to him and then walked towards the town.
The evening sun shines on the stone roads of the town, warm and soft. The market is bustling with people, and the stalls are filled with a variety of goods, from fresh vegetables to handicrafts, and even bottles of the legendary Gerling Water, flashing an alluring light.
"Mars, look, there is a stall selling Gerlin Water!" Gerlin pointed excitedly at the stall not far away, his eyes flashing with anticipation.
"But that's fifty contribution points per bottle, buddy, are the things you have enough?" Mars asked with a raised eyebrow.
"I'd rather get a few more things in exchange today." Gerling blinked and walked towards the stall firmly.
As they approached the stall, a bearded merchant was fiddling with bottles of fragrant liquid, muttering, "The freshest Gerling water. Take a sip and you'll be refreshed! Only fifty contribution points!"
"Hey, old man, is there any discount?" Mars asked.
"Old man? I'm much younger than you!" The businessman responded unhappily, pointing to his skinny face. "This water is worth this price, who dares to give you a discount!"
"Then I have to think of another way." Gerlin looked disappointed and turned to leave.
"Wait!" the merchant suddenly said, "If you can help me find the pigeon that ran away, I can consider lowering the price."
"Pigeon?" Gerling turned around and asked with interest, "Do you have any clues?"
“It’s just around the market. I’m going to go look for it later. I heard it doesn’t fly far, but I’m old and can’t run.” The businessman frowned, obviously not having much confidence in chasing the pigeon.
"Okay, I'll try." Gerlin agreed without hesitation. Seeing Mars's puzzled expression, he added, "This is an opportunity. Maybe I can get the Gerlin Water back."
"Okay, then be careful." Mars patted his shoulder: "I'll wait for you here."
Gerlin ran all the way out of the market, thinking to himself that pigeons would mostly roost in high places, and he ran towards the town wall. In the sky above one side of the wall, he indeed saw a few pigeons flying back and forth among the sycamore trees.
He approached quietly and crouched down, trying not to disturb them. At this moment, a white pigeon flew over and landed on the grass beside him. Gerling reached out his hand stealthily and slowly approached.
"Oh, that's good, come here." He coaxed in a low voice.
The pigeon was obviously not affected by him. It suddenly got startled and flew up, heading straight for the roof of the second floor of the city wall. Gerlin immediately chased after it, feeling a little nervous, but more excited.
He scrambled around on the roof and finally found the pigeon on a sunny little platform. The pigeon sat there stubbornly, seemingly unwilling to follow him.
"Little guy, don't go. I just want you to go back." Gerlin approached cautiously, trying to comfort it with a gentle voice.
The pigeon turned its head, its eyes somewhat hesitant, as if it was considering Gerling's sincerity. Seeing this, Gerling slowly stretched out his hand, put a small piece of bread crumbs on the ground, and waved to the pigeon: "Come on, have something to eat."
After hesitating for a moment, the pigeon finally landed and began to peck at the bread crumbs. Seeing this, Gerling slowly approached, and finally, at the moment when the pigeon completely let down its guard, he decisively reached out and gently caught it.
"Success!" Gerlin turned around excitedly, feeling a sense of accomplishment. He hurried back with the pigeon. When he returned to the market, he couldn't wait to find the merchant and handed the pigeon to him without waiting for Mars to ask.
"Hey, you really found it!" The merchant seemed quite surprised. He took the pigeon and clenched his fists tightly. "Okay, I promise you, the Gerlin Water only costs thirty contribution points!"
"This is great news!" Gerling immediately agreed and secretly rejoiced in his heart.
Seeing this, Mars gave him a thumbs up and said, "You are amazing, Gerling! I didn't expect you to find the pigeon so quickly."
"Thank you. You gave me motivation." Gerlin responded with a smile. Then he took out the contribution points he had accumulated and paid the money smoothly.
In the cold wind, Gerling picked up the bottle of sparkling liquid, his eyes full of anticipation and yearning: "I can finally taste the legendary Gerling water!"
"How about we find a place to drink together?" Mars suggested.
"Good idea! However, I'm still a little eager to share this unique experience with you." Gerlin nodded in agreement, and then the two walked towards the small lake outside the town.
The lake was sparkling and looked particularly beautiful under the sunlight. They found a flat stone by the lake and sat down. Gerling carefully opened the bottle cap, took a long breath, and suddenly felt extremely excited.
