Hogwarts Lion Girl
Chapter 223 Umbridge Punishment
In Potions class, Harry and Ron sat in the back of the classroom, passing notes to each other and discussing the Quidditch game in low voices.
Ron nudged Harry with his elbow and pointed to the classroom door, where Snape was.
They quickly stuffed the notes into their schoolbags and pretended to be listening to the class carefully.
Snape looked around the classroom and reminded everyone in his unique slow and clear tone that the crucial OWL exam would be held in June next year and every student must take it seriously.
His gaze lingered on Neville for a moment, with a hint of barely perceptible mockery.
Snape then announced that only those students who had achieved excellent results in their OWL examinations would be eligible to enter his NEWT Potions class.
He began to explain the demulcent that would be prepared today, and wrote down the steps and precautions in detail.
Harry followed Snape's instructions step by step, but because he was absent-minded, he forgot to add a drop of the crucial hellebore syrup.
When he handed the finished potion to Snape for inspection, Snape just glanced at it coldly and gave him a zero without mercy.
As expected, Hermione completed the preparation of the potion perfectly and received rare praise from Snape.
The bell rang for the end of get out of class. Harry was furious because he got zero points for his homework. He was the first to rush out of the classroom, leaving the other students looking at each other in bewilderment.
……
Because he openly contradicted Umbridge in class, Harry was ordered to go to her office after school to be punished.
He was thinking about how to respond all the way, and his heavy footsteps echoed in the empty corridor.
Harry came to the door of Umbridge's office and stopped, his mind emerging into what this office used to look like: Professor Quirrell filled this office with all kinds of strange things, Professor Lupin liked to use suitcases to cover up the traces of Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Professor Moody's office was filled with specimens of various magical animals.
Now, Umbridge had decorated the room disgustingly, with pink lace draperies everywhere, dried flowers in vases that exuded a pungent smell, and decorative plates hung on the walls with some pretentious cat patterns on them.
Harry frowned in disgust and walked in.
Umbridge sat behind the table covered with a pink lace tablecloth, with a sinister smile on her heavily powdered face, and in a sharp, shrill voice she accused Harry of spreading lies and claimed that he must be punished for it.
Umbridge ordered Harry in a shrill voice to write on the parchment with the black quill on the table. Harry picked up the pen and found that it was neither dipped in ink nor like a fountain pen.
He looked at it over and over again in confusion and found that the tip of the pen was extremely sharp, like a tiny steel needle.
He didn't understand what Umbridge was up to, so he could only grit his teeth and write on the parchment.
However, as soon as he exerted force, a piercing pain came from the back of his right hand.
He looked down and found the words he had just written on the back of his hand, and the color of the words was not ink, but bright red blood.
Umbridge had a sinister smile on her face, and she ordered Harry to write "I must not lie" over and over again.
Harry gritted his teeth, endured the pain, and wrote stroke by stroke. Blood continued to seep out from the back of his hand, staining the parchment and his hands red.
……
After finishing Umbridge's Defense Against the Dark Arts class, Salina and her friends came to the Great Hall to have dinner and found Harry sitting alone in the corner, with a gloomy face and not saying a word.
Hermione thought Snape was too harsh on Harry, while Ron wondered if Snape had really betrayed Voldemort.
Harry irritably stopped their quarrel and left the hall alone.
Ginny and Luna were surprised by Harry's sudden change of mood, while Ron thought Snape was targeting Harry on purpose.
As soon as he walked out of the hall, Harry regretted losing his temper with his friends, but he really couldn't control his irritation.
Snape's troubles, Umbridge's punishment, and the upcoming OWL exams, all these pressures made him breathless.
He decided to go to the library to calm down.
Who knew that as soon as I stepped into the library, I heard Peeves jumping up and down between the bookshelves, making shrill screams.
He frowned in annoyance and walked around the messy desks, trying to find a quiet corner as quickly as possible.
At this moment, Sir Cadogan in the portrait suddenly jumped out, waving his toy sword and shouting that he wanted to duel with Harry.
Harry sighed helplessly and had to say a few perfunctory words to the knight before he was able to get away.
He hadn't taken a few steps when he ran into an angry Angelina.
Angelina blamed him for missing the Quidditch selection, which resulted in the Gryffindor team still being short of players.
Harry then remembered that there were Quidditch tryouts this afternoon, and he missed them because of Umbridge's detention.
He quickly explained to Angelina and said that he would definitely be there for the audition this Friday.
Harry was walking along the towering shelves of the library, trying to find some peace in the whispering of the pages, when he felt someone tug at his robes.
He turned around and saw Hermione running after him breathlessly, worry written all over her face.
"Harry, what's wrong with you? You look terrible!" she said, her eyes falling on Harry's clenched fists.
"What happened to your hand? Did Umbridge do it?" Hermione's voice trembled slightly with anger.
Harry tried to put his hands in his pockets, but Hermione was quick enough to grab his wrists.
"Nothing, just a little accident." He tried to cover it up, but Hermione's sharp eyes had already fallen on the blood-red scratches on the back of his hand. The bright red "I must not lie" was so glaring, as if silently accusing Umbridge of her atrocities.
"We have to tell Headmaster Dumbledore!" Hermione said, and was about to take Harry to find Dumbledore.
"Don't!" Harry pulled his hand back abruptly. "Headmaster Dumbledore has a lot of things to deal with right now. Don't bother him with such a small matter."
Hermione wanted to say something, but seeing Harry's determined eyes, she sighed, "Then let's go find Professor McGonagall! She will definitely help you!"
Hermione dragged Harry towards Professor McGonagall's office without saying a word.
After Professor McGonagall learned the whole story, a rare trace of anger appeared on her usually serious face. "This is nonsense! I will go find Umbridge. She can't treat my students like this!"
Professor McGonagall stormed out of the office, and both Harry and Hermione could feel the powerful aura emanating from her.
After a long while, Professor McGonagall came back with a dark face, "I have already warned Umbridge. If she dares to do this again, I will never let her go!"
Although Umbridge temporarily backed down under Professor McGonagall's dominance, Harry knew that this was only the calm before the storm.
There was a gleam of resentment in Umbridge's eyes, and Harry knew that she would not give up.
