[HP] Being a problem student at Hogwarts

Chapter 6 Recommended Readings for Primary and Secondary School Students by the Ministry of Educatio

The students are all looking forward to the Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Tom was not very interested in this at first.

"Defense against the Dark Arts! How silly it sounds." Tom thought to himself, "Just like white magic doesn't need defense." Tom remembered Professor Flitwick repeatedly emphasizing that a wizard named Baruffio was casting a common spell. When performing the ordinary floating spell, because he said "f" instead of "s", he summoned a bison and landed on his chest.

That careless guy must have suffered a comminuted fracture of his sternum. Tom touched his chest, as if he also felt pain.

So what's the point of just defending against dark magic? Any magic has a way of becoming dangerous. For example, when someone is eating a melon without spitting out the seeds, secretly use "Grow Quickly", or when someone is chewing a pen while thinking, use "Grow Quickly", which can cause a tooth to collapse in a minor case, or can cause a tooth to grow in severe cases. Look at a mosaic. Even if the most basic levitating spell is cast correctly, as long as you use force and speed, you can easily turn the necklace into a murderous collar.

The more Tom thought about it, the more he felt that the magic world was in danger, and he wanted to immediately cast a defensive spell on his body and all surrounding objects.

"Two plans, one is to defend beforehand, and the other is to repair afterward." Tom thought about the school schedule. "Although the name Defense Against Dark Arts is silly, it should teach us how to prepare in advance. The other is to treat injuries in time, as well. A way to extend the life bar and ensure continued combat capabilities. The school does not offer medical subjects, and those related to it should be potions and herbal medicine classes."

Tom marked these three subjects on his timetable. By the way, he specially painted all the Transfiguration classes with gold, thinking that he could make a fortune if he studied further.

"Just extend the duration of the transformation." He thought.

So now Tom, like other students, has great expectations for Defense Against the Dark Arts.

But Professor Quirrell's performance is really disappointing.

The classroom where he taught was filled with a smell of garlic, so strong that Tom almost shed tears - purely smoked. Everyone said this was to drive away a vampire he met in Romania - Tom took notes carefully: 1. So there really are vampires; 2. The wizarding world also believes that vampires are afraid of garlic, so maybe vampires are also afraid of silver and crosses ;3. Romania is not safe, so avoid going there during holidays.

If it was just a bad smell, Tom could still tolerate it for a while, but Professor Quirrell was also stammering and slurring when he gave lectures, which sounded particularly strenuous. The students didn't like him because of this. When they made trouble in class, or deliberately interrupted him and asked some weird and difficult questions, he couldn't control the class and stood in front of the podium in vain with his face flushed and angry.

Tom almost felt sorry for him! He knows that some teachers are like this. In fact, they may not be bad at it, but when it comes to mastering the classroom and teaching students, that is another matter.

He did not doubt Professor Quirrell's own level. As far as he knew, Hogwarts was the only wizarding school in the UK, and its principal was recognized as the greatest wizard of our time - Gryffindor House was full of Dumbledore, and almost all wizards praised themselves. Children are sent here to study. It can be said that this is the future of the British wizarding world! How can a guy with no ability be a teacher here? How did you fool Dumbledore? Besides, if you can't teach well here, you are simply out of touch with the British wizarding world. Which parent of a child would have a good look at a teacher who delays his or her child's progress?

But listening to Professor Quirrell's class is too painful, so it is better to study on your own. Tom plans to get himself some teaching aids and extracurricular books to read.

The library at Hogwarts is also very interesting. Think about it, magic books! Magic books do not just stay on the bookshelf waiting to be opened. Some books will fight when put together, so the librarian Mrs. Pince had to separate them and lock them in cages; some books like to fight with people. Hide and seek, no matter how many times you put it in categories, it will always sneak away when you turn around; you have to be particularly careful when opening some books. If you move too roughly, it will automatically close with a wail and take it away. The spine of the book hits the bridge of your nose hard, making you cry with it...

Because there are too many books in the library, and many magic books are unreliable, Tom doesn't know where to find the tutoring and extracurricular books he needs.

He even took out his admission notice and shook it to make sure he hadn't missed anything.

"It's strange." Tom thought, "I didn't see anything like the "Must-Reading List for Primary and Secondary School Students Recommended by the Ministry of Education", the "Extracurricular Books Recommended by the State for Primary School Students", and the "Extracurricular Books Recommended by Teachers". He also ran to I asked Mrs. Pince and wanted to know where teaching materials and classroom assignments such as "Teachers' Teaching Books", "Collection of Excellent Subject Lesson Plans", and "Hogwarts Synchronous Teaching Class Assignments" are in the library.

"No, there is no such thing." Mrs. Pince waved her feather duster impatiently, "Don't cause trouble on purpose!"

Tom felt extremely wronged. He obviously wanted to study hard, but Mrs. Pingsi acted like he was deliberately looking for trouble.

He became so stubborn that he insisted on getting himself a list of books to help him study.

If you have any questions, go to the class teacher.

This is a deep imprint left on Tom by the Muggle world. So he went to Professor McGonagall with his confusion and asked the same question.

"Mr. Locke," Professor McGonagall frowned and said tactfully, "you must adapt to life in the magical world as soon as possible."

"I don't understand, Professor." Tom looked up at the witch, "I think this is just me trying to adapt to the magical world. Many little wizards like me have just entered the magical world and know nothing about it. Besides reading more, is there any good way to understand the magical world and master the power of magic faster? I think, even in the magical world, reading more and learning more is not a bad thing, right? But there are so many books in the library, Is reading without any choice the best? Besides, some magic books may not be suitable for beginners to read. After all, magic books are not that honest."

Teacher McGonagall thought for a moment and said, "I think you are right, Mr. Locke." She smiled slightly and said, "Five points for Gryffindor."

"However, the Ministry of Magic does not have a dedicated Ministry of Education, so the "Ministry of Education Recommended Reading List" you want is impossible. As a professor of Transfiguration, I recommend the following books for you." She waved her wand and wrote on a blank page I clicked on the parchment, and the winding ink immediately appeared on it, showing several lines of book titles.

"Thank you, professor!" Tom smiled happily, "I'll go find some other subject teachers and ask."

"I don't recommend that you share all your books with your classmates," Professor McGonagall reminded him, "Be aware that-"

"——Everyone's level is different." Tom said, "What suits me may not be suitable for others, so if other students need it, I will remind them to find the teacher themselves."

"But this is too hard, teacher! How lucky we are to have such a responsible and attentive teacher like you." Tom complimented skillfully.

Professor McGonagall smiled more reservedly at this, and offered that if Tom had any questions about his subsequent reading, she would be happy to answer them.
