The Wizard’s Fairy Tale

Grimm's Fairy Tales - The Fearless Prince

Once upon a time there was a prince who didn't want to stay in his father's palace because he wasn't afraid of anything. He thought, I'm going to visit the world, and my time there won't be so long for me, because I will see many strange things. So he said goodbye to his parents and left. He went from morning to night, day and night, and did not choose a path, because it was the same to him no matter which path he took. One day he came to a giant's house, and because he was so tired, he sat down by the door to rest. He glanced here and there, and immediately fixed on the plaything the giant had placed in the yard. There were some big balls there, and ninepins the size of a man. After a while, he wanted to play with the wooden ball, so he set up the wooden pillars, and hit them with the ball, and when the wooden pillars fell down, he laughed and screamed, and was very happy. Hearing the noise, the Giant put his head out of the window, and saw a man who was shorter than the others, playing his own game of skittles. Little one, he cried, why are you playing with my ball? Who gave you such strength? The prince looked up and saw the giant, and said, Oh, you fool, you think only your arms are strong. I can do whatever I want!” The giant stepped down and watched him play boules enviously, and said, “Little guy, if you are that kind of person, go and get me from the tree of life. Pick an apple. What do you want that for? asked the Prince. I don't want it myself, said the Giant, I have a fiancée, and she wants it. I have searched all over the world and can't find that tree. I will find it soon, said the Prince, I don't want it. Know what will stop me from picking that apple. The giant said, You are so sure that it is easy? The tree grew in a garden surrounded by an iron railing, and before the railing lay terrible beasts. Next to each other is guarding the garden, and no one will be allowed in. They will certainly let me in, said the Prince. Fine, but even if you could get in and see the apple hanging from the tree, it's still not yours. There's a ring hanging in front of it, and anyone who wants to get the apple has to put their hands in it, but not yet. People have this luck. Luck must belong to me, said the prince.

So he bid farewell to the giant, crossed mountains and ridges, crossed valleys and forests, and finally came to the strange garden.

The door was really full of monsters, but they all shrugged their heads and fell asleep drunk. Even when he approached, they didn't wake up. So the Prince stepped over them, climbed the hedge, and reached the garden without incident. The tree of life stood in the middle of the garden, and the red apples hung all over the branches, shining brightly in the sun. He climbed to the top of the tree, and was about to reach out to pick the apple, when he saw the ring in front of it, but he reached in without any difficulty, and got the apple. Suddenly the ring encircled his arm, and he only felt a powerful force spread throughout his body. After jumping down the treetop with the apple, instead of stepping over the fence, he held onto the gate, thinking it would slam open without hitting it much, and he got out. At this time, the lion lying at the door woke up, and immediately jumped up and ran after him, but he was not angry at all, nor did he feel cruel and terrifying, but followed him obediently as if he were his master.

The prince gave the apple to the giant and said, You see, I got it without any difficulty. The giant was very happy, because he didn't expect his wish to come true so soon. He immediately ran to his fiancée and gave her the apple she had always wanted. That was a beautiful and smart girl. When he saw that the giant didn't have a ring on his hand, he said, I won't believe that you picked this apple unless I saw that you have a ring on your hand. The Giant Said: Then I have to go back and get it. He thought it would not be easy, whether the little man was willing or not,

He can grab it by force. So he asked the prince to take off the ring, but the prince refused. Where the Apple is, so will the Ring be, said the Giant, and you will fight me if you will.

Then they began to fight, but after a long time the giant could not hurt the prince, for the prince was greatly strengthened by the magic power of the ring. So the giant played a trick and said, After fighting for so long, I'm getting hot, and so are you. Let's take a bath in the river to cool down before we start fighting. The prince didn't know the trick, and followed When the giant came to the river, he took off his clothes first, then took off the ring from his arm, and jumped into the water. Seeing this, the giant picked up the ring and ran away. But the Lion saw it, and at once pursued it, and snatched the Ring from his hand, and gave it back to its master. So the Giant hid behind the oak tree, and while the Prince was busy dressing, he sprang upon him, and plucked out his eyes.

Now the poor prince stood there, blind and not knowing what to do. The giant came up to him, took him by the hand like a guide, and led him up to the top of a boulder. He let the prince stand on it, thinking, Two more steps, and he'll fall off the cliff and be smashed to pieces, and then I'll be able to take the ring off his arm. But the faithful lion didn't Not forgetting its master, it grabbed the prince's clothes and dragged him slowly back. When the giant came to steal the ring, he found that his trick had failed again. Is there no way to kill that villain? He got angry, grabbed the prince and led him up the cliff along another road. But the Lion saw his trick again, and helped his master escape again: and when they were near the edge of the cliff, the Giant let go of the blind man's hand, and tried to leave him there alone, but the Lion caught up with him. Go and push the giant, so that the giant fell off the cliff and fell to pieces.

The faithful Lion brought his master back from the precipice again, and led him to a tree by which flowed a clear brook. As the Prince sat there, he saw the Lion also get down on his knees, and splash the water in the Prince's face with his paws. A few drops of water fell into the prince's eyes, and suddenly the prince could see again. He saw a little bird flying by, bump into a tree, and hurt both eyes, and it fell into the water, washed itself, and flew up again, as if its eyes were bright again. Then the prince recognized God's instruction again, and stooping down he threw himself into the water and washed his face. When he got up again, his eyes were brighter and clearer than before.

The prince thanked God for his gift and continued to travel around the world with his lion. One day he came to a magic palace, and found a beautiful and elegant girl sitting at the gate, but she was quite dark. The girl said to him, Oh, if only you could take the charm off me! What shall I do? asked the Prince. You have to live in this magic palace for three nights, but you must not have the slightest fear. The devil will try to torture you. If you can bear this torture without making a sound, then I will be free. They will not want you I will die. Then the prince said, I am not afraid at all; God will bless me, and I will try. So he went into the palace happily, and sat in the hall when it was dark and waited patiently. Everything was quiet for a while, but in the middle of the night, there was a lot of noise, and many demons suddenly emerged from the cave and around the corner. They didn't seem to notice him, they just sat in the middle of the hall, lit a fire and started to gamble. Someone loses, and he says, That's not right, there's someone in the room who doesn't belong to us, and it's his fault I lost. Wait a minute, you all stay behind the fireplace, I'm coming. Another explain. The screaming became louder and louder, and the sound was horrifying to hear. The Prince sat there, not saying a word, not at all afraid. Finally, all the devils jumped up from the ground and rushed towards him. The number of devils was increasing, making it impossible for him to save himself. They dragged the prince to the ground, grabbed him, pinched him, dragged him, pinched him, and tortured him in every possible way. But he didn't make any sound. At dawn, the demons left, and he was so tired that he could barely move. But as soon as dawn broke, the black girl ran in. She held a small bottle of life water, poured it on him, and scrubbed his body. Immediately, he felt no more pain and gained a new strength. You did well that night, but there are two more nights to come, said the girl, and went away. As she went, the prince noticed that her feet had turned white. The next night, the devil came to gamble again. They fell upon the Prince again, and tortured him more cruelly than on the previous night, until he was covered with bruises. He quietly endured the torture and they were forced to leave him. When dawn broke, the girl came again and healed his wound with the water of life. When she left, he was delighted to find that her whole body was as white as her fingertips. Now he only had to endure one more night, but this time the torment was worse than before. The devils came running again, Are you still here? they cried, This time we will kill you. They pinched him, beat him, threw him here and there, pulled his hands and feet, Almost tore the prince to pieces. But the prince endured it without making a sound. At last the demons disappeared again, but this time the prince fell into a faint, unable to move or lift his head. The girl ran over and scrubbed his wound with the water of life, and he no longer felt the pain, and suddenly became energetic and radiant, as if he had just woken up from a dream. He opened his eyes and saw a fair girl standing beside him, extremely beautiful. Sit up, said the girl, go upstairs and swing your sword three times, and all will be saved. When he did so, the whole palace was free from the spell, and the girl turned out to be a rich princess. The servants all came to say that the table was set and the meal was ready, so they sat down and ate and drank, and the wedding was celebrated that night amidst the sound of rejoicing.
