Just when Bajie was expecting, the Tathagata said again: "Zhu Wuneng, you, the water god of the Tianhe River and the marshal of Tianpeng, drank too much and played with Xian'e at the peach party for you, and demoted you to the lower world and reincarnated like an animal. Fortunately for you, I remember that I loved the human body and committed sins in Yunzhan Cave in Fuling Mountain. Later I happily returned to the great sect and entered my ascetic life to protect the holy monks on the way. However, I still had stubbornness and my lust was not gone. Because you have done a good job in shouldering the burden, I will be promoted to your post. , be the messenger who cleans the altar.”
Bajie was dissatisfied when he heard this, so he shouted: "Master and senior brother have become Buddhas, how can they make me a messenger of pure altar?"
The so-called Pure Altar Envoys, in terms of their fruit status, are not as good as Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, or Arhats. From this, it can be inferred that the merits gained should not be much. Therefore, Bajie is extremely dissatisfied. If he were not right at this moment, There is no way of knowing that he might curse loudly in Lingshan Mountain.
In response to this, the Tathagata simply replied: "Because you have a strong mouth, a relaxed body, and a wide food intestine, covering the four major continents, eight wastelands, and four seas in the world, there are many people who look up to my teaching. I teach you all the Buddha's things." The altar is a useful level, so why not?"
Seeing that Bajie wanted to argue again, the Buddha did not wait for him to speak, and said again: "Sha Wujing, you are a general who can roll the curtains. First, because of the peach meeting, the glass cup was broken, and you were demoted to the lower realm. You fell into the Liusha River. He is a sinner who harms living things and eats people. Fortunately, he converted to my religion. He sincerely respects the monks and protects the holy monks. He performs meritorious service on climbing mountains and leading horses. He is promoted to a great position and achieves the right fruit. He becomes a golden Arhat."
Seeing that he had been granted the right fruit and was still above the Eight Precepts, Sha Monk hurriedly bowed and said, "My disciple, thank you Lord Buddha!"
"Little White Dragon, you are the son of the Dragon King of Guangjin in the Western Ocean. Because you disobeyed your father's orders and committed the crime of unfilial piety, you are fortunate enough to take refuge in the Dharma and my ascetics. I am grateful to you for carrying the holy monk to the West every day. Since you carried the Bible and went eastward, you have also done a great job, so I have promoted you to the rank of eight heavenly dragons and horses." After saying this, the Tathagata raised his sleeves three times, and he gave the three of them the right fruits.
Seeing that he was unable to change anything, Bajie had to take over the position of the Pure Altar Envoy. After refining their respective fruit positions, the three of them had broken through to the late stage of Taiyi Golden Immortal. With the help of acquired merits, Sha Monk took advantage of the opportunity to break through to the middle stage of Daluo Golden Immortal. , while Bajie and Bai Longma only broke through Daluo Jinxian and never advanced again.
This is because the Tathagata knew very well that Bajie was born in Taoism and could not truly belong to Buddhism, so he was bestowed the least. Sha Seng, who came from Chanjiao, had several rebellious uncles who had converted to Buddhism, so he was easier to win over, and was finally given Arhat. Positive result.
As for the little white dragon, his merits were not enough in the first place. Being able to break through the Great Luo Jinxian with Bajie was already a great reward. He didn’t have much complaints in his heart. In the end, he was classified as the Eight Heavenly Dragons. However, there were many blood descendants of the ancient dragon clan among them. The emotional attachment to fellow tribesmen makes it easier for them to join.
Destiny to journey to the west has only been completed at this point. Heaven has bestowed merits and virtues in a calamity, so that all those involved in the journey to the west will have acquired merits. At one time, countless golden lights of merits descended to various dojos in the ancient world at almost the same time. .
Among them, Buddhists naturally get the most. After absorbing these acquired merits, whether they are Tathagata Buddha, Maitreya Buddha and other Buddhas, or Bodhisattvas such as Manjushri and Samantabhadra, their cultivation practices will all improve a lot.
As someone who was fully involved in the spread of Buddhism to the east, Guanyin Bodhisattva naturally gained much more acquired merit than others.
