HP Dawn Night
Chapter 141 Goblet of Fire
As we followed Durmstrang's representative, queuing up the stone steps, the sixth graders behind frantically searched for something in their pockets:
"Oh, I can't believe I didn't have a quill on me at all—"
"You mean he'll sign my hat with lipstick?"
Even Daphne was excitedly discussing Krum with Borstead:
"He's one of the best Seekers in the world! We can find a chance to stop him and take a group photo together..."
Berstrom just listened in silence, she had become more reticent this semester than ever.
We went to sit at the long Slytherin table, and the Durmstrang students were still gathered at the door, wondering where to sit.The Beauxbatons had already taken their seats at the Ravenclaw table, looking around the Great Hall with sullen expressions on their faces, three of them still with their hoods wrapped around their heads.
"Poor fellows," I looked at them sympathetically, "I dare say they come from somewhere sunny in France."
"It would be a disaster if they didn't have cloaks," Blaise added, smiling.
"He's coming! He's coming!" Pansy suddenly reached under the table and pinched me hard. I almost cried out in pain, but her facial expression was still noble and elegant.
"Who's here?"
"Krum!" she said hoarsely.
Today must have been Pansy's lucky day, as Krum and his Durmstrang classmates had chosen to take their seats at the Slytherin table.
Pansy's eyes went straight and I kicked her under the table.
Durmstrang's students looked much happier than Beauxbaton's gang, and they took off their fur cloaks to reveal blood-red robes underneath. The enchanted ceiling of Hogwarts caught their attention. The only two girls still picked up the golden plate and the goblet and looked at it carefully, obviously very interested.
Draco's expression showed that he was racking his brains for ways to strike up a conversation with Krum. But this person on the long Slytherin table who had the same thoughts as him was far from the only one. Pansy stared at her goblet, as if she had fallen into a long meditation, while Daphne kept making eye contact with Boster. Communication, even many students from other colleges cast envious glances here, which immediately made us feel a lot of pressure.
"Excuse me," Draco seemed to have finally thought of a topic to talk about, "How is Professor Karkaroff?"
I kind of want to kick him again - it's really not a good topic.
As far as Blaise can't help but look on his face, I think we should be the only two understanding people at the Slytherin table tonight.
"Great." Krum looked at Draco in surprise, but answered his question anyway, "Do you know him?"
"Actually, my father knew Professor Karkaroff, so he once considered sending me to Durmstrang...but I think they haven't seen each other for a long time," Draco said.
Krum is obviously not very interested in this topic. In contrast, he seems more willing to talk about his school itself: "Oh, why did you come to Hogwarts after all?"
"Family reasons," Draco said with feigned ease, "but maybe Durmstrang would suit me better, wouldn't it?"
Krum said noncommittally: "I just think Hogwarts is pretty good."
Draco seemed to choke, but he quickly changed the subject: "Yeah, I think you must appreciate this beautiful ceiling?"
"That's right." Krum looked at the ceiling with interest, "This must have cast a very clever spell."
"Actually, whenever we have a Quidditch match, we can look through the ceiling at breakfast to see what the weather's like outside." Draco turned to Quidditch with difficulty.
"Oh?" Krum didn't seem to buy it, "Can't you see the outside from your dormitory?"
His question gave Pansy a good chance, and she hurried to speak before Draco: "Obviously we are in a separate house. Slytherin students live at the bottom of the lake."
Krum looked taken aback. "Lake bottom?"
"That's right," Draco snapped, "It's very interesting to say. We can see the scenery at the bottom of the lake through the window in the room, such as algae, fish, giant squid and so on."
Pansy added: "Of course it doesn't feel cold, because there is a fireplace."
"Sounds interesting," Krum said dryly, turning his head to speak to his classmates in a foreign language.I looked at Pansy and Draco pityingly, feeling that their conversation could stop there.
When it was time to serve the food, even Pansy, who was in a trance, was attracted by tonight's food.
"What's this?" Pansy asked me. "Seafood chowder?"
"French bouillabaisse, it's delicious." I said.
Many of the dishes tonight are foreign flavors, and there are also local British specialties. For example, the rare steak and kidney pie and black pudding.
"Oh, look at that girl." Pansy motioned me to look up.A Beauxbatons girl was standing at the Gryffindor table, talking to Weasley, and walking away a moment later with a plate of fish soup.
"She's probably of Veela blood." Judging by her rare silver hair and the way Weasley was completely stupefied, she might be a descendant of Veela.
"Weasley looks like he's never seen a girl before," Pansy sneered.
I laughed. "Then you should really see him at the Quidditch World Cup."
"The remaining two judges of the Triwizard Tournament are here." Blaise interrupted our chat, and his words also caught Krum's attention. Under Blaise's guidance, we easily found the teacher on the bench The two empty seats had already been filled.
"Ludo Bagman and Crouch?" Draco didn't seem surprised to see these two officials from the Ministry of Magic here.
"Did they show up at the Quidditch World Cup?" Krum asked Draco bluntly, and after getting an affirmative reply, Krum's face darkened.
Their presence here, I think, no doubt inadvertently brought back Krum's memories of how he lost the World Cup so embarrassingly.
Although from the perspective of a bystander, he cannot be blamed at all.
Dumbledore stood up as the golden plates were being scrubbed again.A feeling of excitement and tension pervaded the auditorium.
"The time has finally come," Dumbledore smiled. "The Triwizard Tournament is about to begin. I want to explain a few words before bringing the box in."
Dumbledore introduced Bagman and Crouch before he clapped his hands: "Mr. Filch, please bring up the box."
Filch came forward, holding in his hand a large, old jeweled box.
"Goblet of Fire," Draco whispered.
Everyone in the auditorium was holding their breath and staring at the mysterious big box. While we've all heard of the Goblet of Fire, no one has actually seen it.Dumbledore reiterated the criteria of the Triwizard Tournament, then he drew his wand and tapped three times on the lid of the box, which slowly creaked open.Dumbledore reached in and pulled out a large, rough-hewn wooden goblet. The cup itself was inconspicuous, but it was filled with dancing white flames.
"This is a fair referee." Dumbledore said solemnly, "Every student who meets the registration requirements, please write your name and school on a piece of paper, and then enter this entry within 24 hours. Goblet. Tomorrow night, it will select the three students it thinks can best represent the three schools, and they will be the warriors participating in the Triwizard Tournament."
The Great Hall was silent except for Dumbledore's voice.
"In order to prevent underage students from being tempted, I will draw an age limit around the goblet, and anyone under the age of 17 will not be able to cross this limit. Finally, I would like to remind every student who wants to participate in the election, This competition is not a child's play, so don't take part in it rashly. Once a warrior is selected by the Goblet of Fire, he must persevere to the end. Whoever puts his name into the cup actually forms a law that must be obeyed, Magical contract. Once you're a warrior, you're not allowed to change your mind. So please think twice before you put your name in the cup because you really want to be in the game."
He looked around the auditorium and found that many students had expressions of awe on their faces.
"Well," said Dumbledore kindly, "I think it's time for everyone to go to bed. Good night."
We all got up from the dining table and prepared to go back to the lounge, when Karkaroff hurried over:
"Now, go back to the ship," he said. "How are you, Viktor? Are you full? Shall I send for some warmed wine from the galley?"
Krum shook his head, put the fur cloak back on without speaking.
"Professor, I'd like some wine," said another Durmstrang boy, salivating.
"I didn't ask you, Polyarko." Karkaroff immediately dropped his fatherly gentle expression and said sternly, "I noticed that you dripped food on the front of your robe again. You nasty boy-"
Karkaroff turned and led his student towards the door.
At the door of the auditorium they ran into Harry Potter and his party. We were too far away to see what was happening. It seemed that Karkaroff and Durmstrang's students were equally familiar with the famous Harry Potter, and they even stopped and watched for a moment, so that they caused a traffic jam.
"That's right, that's Harry Potter!" Moody came out from nowhere on crutches. His appearance surprised Karkaroff:
"It's you!"
"It's me," said Moody darkly. "Unless you have something to say to Potter, Karkaroff, go ahead. You've blocked the door."
"His attitude towards Karkaroff seems to be worse than his attitude towards Draco that day." Pansy looked at Draco beside him.
"That's really weird," Blaise said.Moody stood where he was, staring at Karkaroff until he was out of sight.
"I don't know how to evaluate Karkaroff now." Pansy sighed.
"His attitude towards Krum and that boy is very different." Blaise continued.
"Do you think he's biased?" I asked.
"Obviously, isn't it? It's not fair to that boy at all," Pansy said.Blaise nodded in agreement.Draco, on the other hand, looked thoughtful and remained silent.
It occurred to me that perhaps, in the eyes of Gryffindor and other houses, Dad treated Harry Potter just as unfairly.
"Oh, I can't believe I didn't have a quill on me at all—"
"You mean he'll sign my hat with lipstick?"
