Marvel's Necromancer
Chapter 23 Employment
"Is only black tea okay?"
"Of course, it would be better if there was coffee." Seeing Director Nick still looking at the armored skeleton, Coulson responded proactively.
Ivan took out a tin tea set and an electric kettle from under the table, and skillfully brewed black tea.
"This is tea produced in the Middle East. It has a unique flavor that is rarely seen outside." Ivan poured black tea into three teacups and explained the unique tea-drinking culture of the Middle East to the guests with a smile on his face.
"They like to boil black tea with milk, mint, etc., and add some spices to it when drinking tea." He raised the small tin pot with cream in his hand and gestured. "Milk? Cream? Mint? Want some?"
"Thank you." Colson took the small pot from Ivan's hand, added some to his cup, and while stirring it with a small spoon, he chatted aimlessly with Ivan about the desert culture and traditional folk customs of the Middle East, and sat down Nick on the side seemed to be competing with the skeleton, and kept staring at the armored skeleton. The skeleton also stared at him with its dark eyes.
Ivan really wanted to tell Nick that the Skeleton Warrior is staring at you because you triggered its enemy-seeking mechanism. You are now staring at yourself in the mirror. As long as you are not hostile and don't look at it, it will not I'll take care of you.
But Ivan didn't say anything in the end. He glanced at the black braised egg, wondering what Nick's intention was, and continued chatting with Colson.
Ivan and Colson chatted like this for more than half an hour, almost unable to find any interesting topics. After chatting for a few minutes about the boring patterns on the teacups, Ivan almost couldn't help but forget about the silly things on the Internet in his previous life. Taking out the Silly Quotes from Que netizens, Nick finally looked away from the skeleton, picked up the tea cup and took a sip of the cold black tea.
"Mr. Ivan has been to the Middle East?" Nick said suddenly. "But we couldn't find any relevant records."
"Just some little tricks." He waved his hand nonchalantly, but he was shocked that SHIELD found out his whereabouts so quickly.
Nick was silent for a moment, not dwelling on the issue.
"Mr. Ivan, you want to gain our friendship, so what can you give?" Nick said this bluntly, and Coulson shut his mouth. He didn't know what his director was going to do, so he couldn't agree. I just watched the black tea with my eyes and my nose.
"You can't ask this question like that." Ivan expressed his thoughts confidently. “It’s about what both of us can bring to each other.”
Nick didn't speak, with an unreadable expression on his face. He looked at Ivan with one eye, waiting for his explanation.
"You know, I am a necromancer." Ivan took a sip from the teacup and said, "Some things and events are difficult to deal with scientifically, or even impossible to deal with, but that is likely to happen in the future." Within the scope of my professional field.”
"what do you want?"
"S.H.I.E.L.D.'s friendship, a little privilege and some gems." Ivan stretched out three fingers to emphasize his three requirements.
"Can ordinary people learn your magic?" Nick once again put aside the previous question and asked another completely different question, which made Ivan unable to follow his train of thought.
"You can learn." Ivan put down the teacup in his hand.
“What are the requirements for those who study?”
"Strong spirit, firm will, cautious and conscientious." Ivan couldn't keep up with Nick's rhythm and couldn't help but sit up straight. "Even if the conditions are fully met, learning magic is still very difficult, and the fatality and disability rates are very high."
Ivan was talking about the Necromancer training method recorded in the Book of Karan. The process was extremely harsh and required the Necromancer to live like an ascetic monk. Ivan couldn't help but feel pity for the apprentices he might have in the future.
In order to increase his credibility, he lowered his head and parted his hair, showing the gray hair roots to the two of them, indicating that his hair was not dyed, but changed due to magic.
"My eyes and hair have changed. This is part of the price." Ivan began to talk nonsense in order to convince Nick.
The look on Nick's face was noncommittal. The one-eyed gaze stayed for a brief moment on the pale neck exposed when Ivan lowered his head.
"What payment do you want?"
"Gem." Ivan once again expressed his need for gems. He showed his desire for gems and handed them to Nick like a handle. "I need a lot of gems."
"It's not easy to buy gems in large quantities on the market. There's no way to meet my needs." Ivan took out a deerskin pouch from his pocket and poured out the remaining three fragmentary gems to show them to the two of them.
"This level is enough." Ivan said as he picked up a gem.
"I will hire you to be our magic consultant." Nick did not ask why Ivan needed gems, as if he didn't care about the problem. After saying what he wanted to say, he stood up, took a final serious look at the armored skeleton, and said Coulson left.
"Colson will notify you once the contract is ready, Mr. Ivan."
After seeing off the black braised egg and his follower Ivan, he sat down on the sofa, took out a towel, and wiped his face with the remaining tea.
Sure enough, there is a generation gap in communicating with this kind of super agent. Ivan thought to himself. He didn't rest for long, and quickly stood up, carefully groping around the place where the two agents had been, looking for bugs or other strange things that might have been left behind.
"No?" Ivan stuck his butt out and touched under the sofa.
"It's better to look for it again." Ivan lowered his head and groped under the sofa again.
"Ivan, what are you doing?" A clear female voice came from above Ivan's head.
Ivan pulled his head out from under the sofa and saw a pair of dark boots in front of his face. He turned his head and looked up. Gwen, who was wearing a white spider tights, had taken off her mask and was lowering her head with half-length blond hair. He lowered it to her ear and looked at him curiously.
Ivan lay on the ground and blinked, when did Gwen come?
"I've been here for more than ten minutes." Gwen looked at the skeleton wearing Gothic-style armor curiously. He stood up on his toes and tapped the skeleton warrior's breastplate.
"Is this made by little Charlie? It's so cool!" she said excitedly, reaching out to touch the exaggerated patterns of the armor. Ivan took this opportunity and quickly got up from the ground, patting the dust on his black robe.
"I never knew little Charlie could do this kind of thing!"
"The real-life props he made are very famous in the cosy circle." Ivan shrugged, but Gwen kept staring at the Skeleton Warrior and didn't see his movements.
"I didn't know this at all." Gwen was busy working as a vigilante all day long, and inevitably neglected her friends. She didn't know that they had achieved such achievements, and she suddenly felt a little sad.
Ivan didn't know how to comfort his new friend, so he could only stand aside with a kind smile.
"I brought some fruit as a gift." Gwen sat on the sofa, took off her hood, and pointed to the coffee table in a depressed mood.
Only then did Ivan discover that there was a bag of fruit on the coffee table. The plastic bag contained several apples and a bunch of grapes.
"That's right." Ivan saw the fruit on the coffee table and remembered something that he had forgotten for more than a month.
"I also have a gift for you." Ivan returned to the room and rummaged through the boxes for a long time before he found the box, which had already accumulated a thin layer of dust.
Ivan wiped the dust off it and took it out and placed it in front of Gwen.
"What is this?" Gwen temporarily put aside her sadness and looked at the box in front of her. She also picked up the box and put her eyes close to look at it, as if she wanted to see what was inside through the gap.
"A gift for you." Ivan smiled kindly. Since he traveled to this world, he has not felt any family and friendship. Although Gwen is a friend who deliberately made friends, Ivan still cherishes it. Have a true friend.
"Open it and have a look?"
