Chapter 308 Protect yourself
Li Er shook his head vigorously and moved closer to Gerlin, his eyes showing some concern. "I didn't notice anything different about her. Why didn't you ask directly when you saw her?"
"I need evidence." A hint of determination flashed in Gerlin's eyes. "Her contact with those hostile apprentices, I can't let it just go."
"What do you want to do?" Lear frowned, obviously worried about Gerling's plan.
"Wait for the right time." Gerling's voice became low and firm. "I will observe secretly and find an opportunity to confront her."
In that corner, Ligula was whispering with a strange young apprentice, with an unusual smile on her face. Their whispers appeared and disappeared from time to time, like an ancient spell, making people feel dark and uneasy.
"That's her." Gelling almost gritted his teeth. "Let's go and listen."
The two men approached quietly, hiding behind a huge old tree, their ears perked up, afraid to miss every word of their conversation.
"They don't know our plan." The strange apprentice's voice was low and mysterious, with a hint of pride, "As long as we can implement everything on the night of the golden full moon, we can plunge the entire academy into chaos."
Ligula smiled softly, with uneasiness between her brows. "But if we are discovered, the consequences will be serious."
"Don't worry, we will make arrangements." The strange apprentice reached out and gently squeezed Ligula's hand. "As long as you are willing to assist us, no one will doubt you."
Hearing this, Gerling's heart was ignited with anger, as if there was a raging fire burning in it. He clenched his fists and wanted to rush up to question Ligura. Lear grabbed his arm and shook his head, signaling him to calm down.
"We need more information," Lear whispered, "We can't let emotions dominate our judgment."
At this moment, Ligula seemed to notice something, turned her head slightly, and a trace of vigilance flashed in her eyes. Gerlin's heart tightened, and he tried to stay calm and turned around quickly.
"Let's go!" Lear followed closely, and the two of them quickly left the hidden place, their hearts full of doubts and uneasiness.
They returned to their room, and Gerling could no longer sit down. The trust he had in the past seemed to collapse in an instant, and doubts he had never experienced before surged in his heart like a tide.
"How could Ligula be connected to them?" he murmured to himself, his voice filled with helplessness and loss.
Li Er sat aside with a serious expression. "Now is not the time to doubt her. You need to analyze rationally and find out the true relationship between her and the apprentice."
"For me, her trust is gone." Gerling clenched his fists, took a deep breath, and tried to calm himself down. "We must find out her motive. Maybe she is not an enemy, but was forced to get involved..."
Li Er nodded. "All we can do is continue to observe. No matter what, we can't let her be put in danger."
Gellin's heart was slightly shocked, and he realized that what Lear said made sense. He couldn't help but think of the past with Ligula, the days of training together, and the moments of mutual support, as if they had become vivid again. He didn't want to give up, maybe all this was just a misunderstanding.
“I’ll try to get closer to her,” Gerling said suddenly. “I need to ask.”
Li Er was slightly worried. "You have to be careful. She is now in contact with a hostile apprentice and may see you as a threat."
"I know." Gerling nodded, but he was determined in his heart. He wanted to find out the truth, no matter what the cost.
A few days later, Gerlin deliberately met Ligula at the training ground. She was practicing magic with several other apprentices, and Gerlin approached with a hint of hesitation. His heartbeat accelerated, but his eyes tried to remain calm.
"Ligula, you seem to be very busy lately." Gerlin smiled and tried to make his tone sound relaxed.
Ligula turned her head and her eyes stayed on him for a few seconds. A hint of surprise flashed in her eyes, but she quickly regained her composure. "Gerlin, I didn't expect you to come here."
"I just wanted to see how everyone's training is going." He said softly, "Who have you been with recently? I heard that you have had contact with apprentices from a rival academy?"
She was slightly startled, and the smile on her face froze instantly, "I... I'm just studying some magic books, nothing special."
"But I know... these intersections are not simple." Gerling's tone became serious, with concern in his eyes. "I hope you can tell me the truth."
Ligula's expression became complicated. She took a deep breath, as if thinking about how to answer.
"This is not what you think." Ligula finally spoke, her voice low and firm, "I just want to get more information so that I can protect our school. You and I are aware of the movements of the hostile school, and I don't want you to be involved in this struggle."
Gerlin's heart moved slightly. Although her doubts still existed, there was some sincerity in her words. "But it's too risky for you to contact them."
"I'll be careful." There was a hint of determination in her eyes. "I don't want to make you worry, but I believe that only by understanding the enemy can we better protect ourselves."
"I am willing to fight alongside you." Gerlin stared at her, a warm feeling welling up in his heart, "We should not be separated, Ligula."
Ligula was slightly stunned, and then she smiled faintly. Her eyes were shining with hope and tenderness, "Thank you, Gerlin. With you by my side, I feel much more at ease."
They stared at each other, and the atmosphere suddenly became tense, as if everything was frozen at this moment. Gerling felt a little relieved, but the uneasiness still lurked in his heart.
At this moment, hurried footsteps were heard outside the training ground, and a commotion broke the silence. Several apprentices with the logo of the hostile school written on their labels broke in, and exclamations were heard all around.
"Why are they here?" Ligula's expression became extremely nervous and she hurriedly grabbed Gerlin's hand.
"Don't be afraid, we will face it together." Gerlin's voice was firm, but a determination to protect was quietly burning in his heart.
The hostile apprentices quickly locked their eyes on them and spoke rudely. It was obvious that they were not easy to deal with. "Look, we found a few poor little mice."
