The most powerful wizard in the magic world
Chapter 23 Unknown Territory
After a thrilling escape, Gerling and Lily finally stopped in a hidden corner of the laboratory. The darkness still enveloped them, and the air was filled with the pungent smell of chemicals. Their hearts were pounding like thunder, and they clung to each other, with cold sweat on their foreheads.
"We...we should calm down first." Lily's voice was weak, but her eyes were shining with determination, "Norco won't chase us again for a while."
"Yes, we must take this opportunity to explore deeper. The secrets hidden in this laboratory are probably far beyond our imagination." Gerling adjusted his breathing slightly and stared firmly at the underworld in front of him. He knew that they had no way out and had to keep moving forward.
"This is Norco's experimental base, especially that passage, which must lead to a more important area." Lily gently combed her hair with her hands, trying to stay calm. "We must be extra careful. Every step may be a trap."
"Don't worry, I'll be careful." Gerling smiled slightly, but there was a trace of uneasiness in his heart. He still couldn't forget the tension and fear he had felt before.
The corridors were lined with lab doors with vague labels on them, and Gerling occasionally stopped to try to figure out what secrets might be hidden behind each door.
"What do you think those experimental subjects are?" Lily's voice was low and urgent. "I have never seen creatures like them. It's like hell on earth."
"These are all crazy experiments conducted by Noko in pursuit of power. We must understand them in depth, and perhaps we can find key evidence." Gerlin replied, constantly alert in his heart.
Continuing forward, at the end of the corridor, there appeared an old door, covered with rust, as if it had been forgotten for a long time. Gerlin gently pushed the door open, and a pungent smell hit them in the face, making them frown.
"What is this place?" Lily asked in a low voice, standing on tiptoe, trying to get a clear view of what was inside.
After the door was pushed open, a dim incubation area came into view, with mold covering the walls, overturned test tubes and some broken equipment on the ground. Several empty incubators lay quietly on the side, and the liquid inside had become turbid, as if the long river of time had washed everything beyond recognition.
"This place looks... bad." There was a tremor in Lily's voice as she approached an incubator and tried to see what was inside.
Gerling quickened his pace and walked to Lily's side, his eyes fixed on the bottom of the incubator. "Look, there's something here." He pointed to the corner of the incubator, and through the turbid liquid, he could vaguely see some egg masses.
Lily leaned forward and was surprised to find that it was a dead Manchester giant snake egg. The shape of the egg was vaguely visible in the darkness, which looked extremely strange. "This...isn't this the legendary Manchester giant snake? Noko is actually conducting such an experiment here!"
"Yes. He tried to hatch more powerful creatures." Gerlin's voice was heavy. "These eggs are dead, which means the experiment has failed." He took a deep breath and his eyes wandered over other incubators, as if looking for more clues.
"Quick, look over there!" Lily suddenly pointed to another corner, her eyes flickering with hope, "There are some eggshells over there, it seems we can find other clues."
The two walked over carefully and found that the eggshells were scattered on the ground, similar in shape to the egg mass just now. "Here is a complete fossil egg!" Gellin bent down in surprise and picked up an egg with a hard surface and full of cracks, his eyes revealing excitement, "This may be a new discovery."
Lily stared at the egg intently, but she was secretly worried in her heart: "This egg has been fossilized, which means it is very old. What exactly does Noko want to do?"
"He wants to borrow the genetic characteristics of these organisms to create more powerful organisms." Gerling is very clear about the value of this egg. "This may be the key to the research."
Lily gently touched the eggshell on the ground, feeling a little uneasy: "These creatures may be Noko's experimental subjects. We must find evidence as soon as possible to prevent him from continuing such experiments."
"That's right." Gerling nodded and quickly used the recorder to take photos of the eggshells and fossil eggs. "We must take this information back."
At this moment, heavy footsteps were heard at the end of the corridor. Gerlin's heart skipped a beat and he pulled Lily to hide in a corner. Their heartbeats almost reached their limit at this moment, and the footsteps were getting closer and closer.
"Norco is here!" Lily's voice was so low that it was almost inaudible, and her face was as pale as paper.
"Don't panic, stay calm." Gerling whispered, trying to calm himself down. He knew that only by being quiet could he better escape the crisis.
The footsteps stopped, the door was pushed open, and Noko slowly walked in, followed by his assistant. "What a mess, how did the laboratory become like this?" Noko smiled coldly, and glanced around, as if looking for something he had missed.
"Lord Fasser, the experiment is about to fail. It is necessary to deal with it immediately." The assistant said tremblingly.
"Deal with it? How do we deal with it?" Noko glared at him unhappily. "How dare you make such a request? These creatures that failed in the experiment are also my achievements. We must find the problem!"
Gerlin and Lily held their breath and covered their mouths tightly. Lily's heart was pounding, afraid that if she exerted a little force, she would make a sound and be discovered by Noko.
"This place smells really bad. I wonder if something has been contaminated." Noko walked closer to an incubator and observed the situation inside through the dirty liquid, his expression becoming increasingly serious.
"Lord Fasl, time waits for no one. We must find the root of the problem." The assistant said carefully, trying to stay calm.
Gerlin gritted his teeth secretly, feeling anxious: "If we don't leave here, we will be discovered by them!"
Lily's eyes sparkled as she whispered, "We can find another exit and quickly slip away when they're not paying attention!"
"Good idea, but we must proceed with caution." Gerlin nodded in agreement, holding the fossil egg tightly in his hand, thinking to himself: "This is something that Noko must not know!"
While Noko and his assistant were arguing, Gerling and Lily quietly retreated and avoided their sight. Gerling closely followed Noko's every move, trying to find a way to escape.
"We must find an exit now." He whispered to Lily, his eyes wandering around.
"There's a door over there!" Lily pointed to a door on the side, which was particularly bright and seemed to lead to another unknown area.
In his hand he held a weak oil lamp, the light flickered, as if fighting against the darkness. At this point, he had walked through the material area, garden area, potion area, and plant greenhouse, but he didn't find anything valuable, which made him even more frustrated.
"Nothing was gained at all," he sighed, his voice echoing in the narrow corridor.
At this moment, there was a sudden sound of footsteps behind him. Gerling turned around and saw that it was his good friend Irene. Her face looked a little tired under the light, but her eyes were shining with determination.
"Gerlin, I searched the entire laboratory, but I didn't seem to find anything special." Irene unfolded the scroll in her hand and frowned slightly. "But I found some ancient formulas in the potion area, but they have been lost."
"So, we may have to look for it on our own." Gerling smiled bitterly, "I thought we could find some clues here, but it turned out to be fruitless."
Irene took a step closer and whispered, "We can't give up. Maybe there are other places we can explore. Remember that legendary secret warehouse? I heard that there are many precious materials hidden there."
"Secret warehouse? Are you talking about the one in the basement?" Gerling's eyes lit up. "I've heard the older generation talk about it, but I've never seen it."
"I only heard it from rumors. However, we can try our luck and perhaps find something useful to us." Irene smiled slightly with a hint of mischief in her eyes.
"Okay, in that case, let's go to the basement and take a look." Gerlin nodded and cheered himself up.
The two walked all the way to the basement, the oil lamps in their hands swaying slightly in the wind, illuminating the road ahead. The door to the basement was covered with dust, and it seemed that no one had been in or out for a long time. Gerling pushed the door open with force, and a musty smell hit him in the face.
"It seems that this place has indeed been forgotten." Irene covered her nose and said softly.
"Don't worry, the chance to find the treasure is just ahead." Gerling smiled and tried to lighten the atmosphere.
The light in the basement was even dimmer, and all around were piles of old books and worn-out equipment. Gerling and Irene began to search among them, occasionally flipping through a few books, but they were just some old records without any substantial content.
"This is such an endless loss." Irene looked up and sighed, her eyes wandering around, "Do you think these things are useful?"
"Maybe they all have their own stories, but we haven't found the right key yet." Gerling smiled and continued searching.
Suddenly, Irene caught a glimpse of a seemingly ordinary wooden door, which was covered with rust, like a treasure forgotten by the years. She walked over curiously and gently pushed the door open. Behind the door was a dark room filled with various bottles and jars.
"Where is this place?" A hint of surprise flashed in Gerlin's eyes, and he followed closely.
“I think this might be the legendary secret warehouse.” Irene’s voice murmured in the darkness, her eyes flashing with curiosity.
Gerlin walked into the storeroom cautiously, the oil lamp in his hand was dimly lit, illuminating some of the bottles around him. There were ancient words on the bottles, which looked full of magic.
"These are all ancient potions." Irene leaned closer to a bottle and looked at the liquid inside through the glass. "This is a potion that restores magic power. I don't know how long ago the formula was created."
"Great! Maybe we can find other potions to help us solve our current predicament." Gerling said excitedly and began to search for other bottles carefully.
As they looked around, the mystery in the room grew thicker. As Gerling flipped through the potions, he muttered to himself, "We need some powerful potions to fight those enemies, and... that book."
Irene found an ancient book and opened it to find that it contained detailed recipes and usage instructions for various medicines. Her heartbeat accelerated involuntarily: "Gerlin, come and look at this!"
Gerlin turned and rushed over, his eyes swept across the pages, and a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes: "The potions recorded in this book seem to be able to enhance magic power, and there are also powerful healing potions!"
"We must take this book back." Irene said eagerly, flipping through the pages. "If we can master these formulas, we can increase our strength."
"Then we have to hurry. Time waits for no one." Gerlin looked around and suddenly found a closed cabinet in the corner. "There is another cabinet over here. We may be able to find more materials."
The two walked quickly to the cabinet, and Irene's fingers gently slid across the cabinet door and quickly unlocked it. The cabinet door creaked open, and it was filled with various materials and potions, emitting a strange light.
"This is incredible!" Irene exclaimed, "These materials are treasures from ancient times. Could it be that we have really found them?"
"Using these materials, we can mix a powerful potion!" Gerlin's voice was full of excitement, and he quickly began to sort and organize.
While they were busy, there were slight footsteps coming from the door of the basement, as if someone was walking towards this side. Gerlin's heart tightened, and he whispered, "Hurry, hide!"
The two of them immediately hid in a dark corner, holding their breath, pricked up their ears, and quietly waited for the movement of the person coming. The footsteps at the door gradually approached, as if they were looking for something.
"Has anyone discovered us?" Irene's voice was so low that it was almost inaudible.
"Don't worry, we're just hiding for a while." Gerlin comforted softly, his eyes fixed on the door.
The door was finally opened, and a figure slowly walked in, holding a glowing magic wand in his hand. Gerlin and Irene looked at each other, and a sense of uneasiness surged in their hearts.
"Who is here?" the man asked in a low voice, with a sense of majesty in his voice.
Gerlin prayed silently in his heart, hoping that they could avoid this disaster. Irene held his hand tightly, her heart filled with tension and expectation.
At this tense moment, the secret of the secret warehouse seems to be waiting for them to uncover, and their fate will change as a result.
