The most powerful wizard in the magic world
Chapter 22 Faith and Shadow
After leaving the bedroom, Gerling and Lily returned to the laboratory. The surroundings were still filled with a tense and mysterious atmosphere. The walls of the laboratory were hung with various complex instruments, and the low hum of the machines was like a whisper lurking in the darkness, making them feel uneasy.
"Gerlin, what are you thinking about?" Lily's voice interrupted his thoughts. She stood next to a huge instrument, with a hint of expectation and doubt in her eyes.
"According to the records on the parchment just now, I suspect that the owner of this laboratory is the Great Scarlet Wizard Noko Guratu Fasr." Gerlin said in a serious tone, looking directly into Lily's eyes. "He has an extremely prominent reputation in the wizarding world, especially in bioengineering."
"Noko Guratu Fasil?" Lily repeated, frowning slightly. "I've heard of his name. He seems to have a lot of followers, but he's also a very controversial figure."
"That's right." Gelling emphasized his tone. "His experiments often break ethical boundaries, and some people even suffer great pain because of them. I'm worried that the experiments he conducted here may involve some forbidden magic."
The tension on Lily's face intensified, and she whispered, "So what should we do now? If he is really conducting these experiments, should we call the police immediately or find more people to help?"
"Calling the police may cause more trouble. Noco's power is huge, and ordinary investigations cannot reach his territory at all." Gerling frowned slightly, thinking about the solution. "We must first find more evidence and understand the content of his experiment before we can take effective action."
Lily looked at Gerling, and the worry in her eyes turned into determination: "I believe you. We can start with the instruments and equipment here and find some evidence to prove his experiment."
Gerling's mind moved, realizing that Lily's suggestion was a good idea. They continued to search the laboratory, their eyes wandering between those complex instruments and bookshelves, trying to find any clues that could reveal the Norco experiment.
"Look at that." Lily pointed to an advanced-looking instrument covered with buttons and display screens. "This machine looks pretty weird. Is it used for experiments?"
"We can try to see." Gerling approached the instrument and carefully observed the instructions next to it. Although the language was rather obscure, he was still able to understand some of the contents with his knowledge. "This seems to be a device for genetic analysis. We need to find out its specific purpose."
"Let me try." Lily stepped forward and deftly adjusted the settings of the instrument, her fingers moving lightly and quickly. As she operated, the instrument made a slight humming sound, and various data began to flash on the display.
"What can you see?" Gelling held his breath and stared at the instrument intently.
"Here is a set of data that appears to be genetic information about the experimental subject." Lily's voice was clear and focused. "The genome displayed in this part seems to overlap with some known organisms. It may have been genetically modified."
"Genetic modification..." Gellin's heart tightened, and various possible scenarios began to emerge in his mind. "This is really too dangerous. If these organisms are modified, the consequences will be disastrous."
"We must find information about the experimental subjects." Lily said inspiringly, "Their existence may help us reveal the true nature of the Noko experiment."
The back door of the laboratory suddenly made a slight sound of opening. Gerlin and Lily immediately stopped what they were doing and looked at each other nervously. The sound was getting closer and closer, and the echo of footsteps was particularly harsh in the quiet laboratory.
"Hurry, we have to hide!" Gerlin whispered, pulling Lily to hide quickly in a storage room nearby, praying silently in his heart that they would not be discovered.
Through the gap in the storage room, they saw a tall figure walking into the laboratory. It was the Noko Guratu Fasr that they feared. He was wearing a crimson robe, his face hidden in the shadows, like a cold sculpture, emitting a frightening aura.
"Continue the experiment." Noko's voice was low and majestic, reaching the ears of Gerlin and Lily. "I don't have much time. I must complete all this within seven days."
"Yes, Lord Fasl." A thin assistant responded respectfully and began to check the equipment in the laboratory.
He knew that the experiment Noko was conducting must be extremely important. Hearing the assistant mention "seven days" vaguely made him feel even more uneasy. "Lily, time is running out. We must find more evidence and leave this place as soon as possible."
"I understand." Lily nodded, with a hint of determination in her eyes. The appearance of Noko made them feel an unprecedented pressure, but it also inspired the courage deep in her heart.
Out of sight of Noko and his assistant, Gerlin led Lily carefully to the other side of the laboratory, where there was a small window through which some covered lab benches could be seen.
"What is that?" Lily pointed to a corner outside the window, with a hint of curiosity and confusion in her eyes.
"I think that's the organism that Noco used for the experiment." Gerlin responded softly, his eyes fixed on the outside of the window. The organisms in the cages were covered with all kinds of tubes and were closely related to the genetic analysis equipment they had just seen.
"We have to observe closely," Lily suggested softly, "perhaps we can find direct evidence of Norco's experiments there."
Gerlin thought for a moment and nodded: "Okay, let's go over quietly while they are not paying attention."
Walking quietly to the window, Gelling could clearly see the imprisoned creatures through the small window. Some of them had strange shapes, while others were very similar to known creatures. They stayed lifeless in the cage, as if waiting for the judgment of fate.
"These creatures are subjects of experiments. Their existence is outrageous." A trace of anger and despair flashed across Lily's face.
"We must record it all. No evidence can be lost." Gelling took out a small recorder from his bracelet and began to silently record everything in front of him.
Noko's assistant seemed to have noticed something and turned around to look around. Gerlin and Lily felt nervous and quickly hid back in the storage room.
"What are you doing here?" The assistant's voice was as sharp as a poisonous snake, and Gerlin and Lily's hearts almost stopped beating.
"We have to find a way to leave here." Lily's voice was low and urgent. "Noko will never let any witness go."
"I think so too." Gellin looked around, and a light flashed in his mind. His eyes fell on a closet next to him, which seemed to be a little unusual. "Wait a minute, I want to take a look at that closet."
Lily followed his gaze and frowned slightly, "Closet? Is there anything important in there?"
"I don't know, but I have a feeling." Gerling walked to the closet and carefully observed the surrounding environment. The closet door was slightly open, as if there was some secret hidden inside. He gently pushed the door open with his hand, and the closet was pitch black and bottomless.
"Are you sure? We shouldn't take any more risks." Lily felt uneasy, but her stronger curiosity drove her to follow.
"If this is really the laboratory of Noko Guratu Fasr, then we must find out his secret." Gerlin replied, making up his mind and stepping into the darkness with confidence.
The two found a narrow passage inside. The passage was filled with the smell of dampness and decay, the walls were covered with moss, and the low ceiling was oppressive. Gerling raised the small recorder in his hand, and the weak light illuminated the path ahead.
"Where does this passage lead to?" Lily asked in a low voice, with a hint of fear in her eyes.
"I don't know either, but we must be brave." Gerling's voice was firm, encouraging Lily to move forward.
"What should we do if we encounter any danger?" Lily asked anxiously.
"We can choose to retreat, but first we need to understand the real purpose of this place." Gerling analyzed carefully, "If Noco is conducting experiments here, then we will definitely find key evidence."
The two of them walked cautiously along the passage, their steps slow and gentle. A low sound was faintly heard at the end of the passage, as if something was whispering. Lily shuddered in her heart, and she asked softly, "What is that sound?"
"We are getting close to that place," Gellin responded, his heart tensing. The sound gradually became clearer, as if some kind of equipment was operating, and their steps became more cautious.
After a few meters, the passage finally opened up and turned into a small underground laboratory. It was filled with various complex equipment and instruments, and the air was filled with the smell of chemicals and a little blood. Lily covered her mouth and tried to suppress the feeling of nausea.
“How could there be such a place…” she sighed in a low voice, her eyes filled with fear and curiosity.
"This is Norco's real laboratory." Gerlin said in a low voice while observing the surroundings, "Look at those instruments, they are all used for biological experiments."
Lily glanced around the corner of the laboratory and found some cages filled with strange creatures of various shapes, some of which she had never seen before. She couldn't help but gasp, "Are these all experimental subjects? Oh my God, this is horrible!"
"We have to be careful." Gelling came to his senses and found a huge laboratory table not far away, with various reagents and instruments on it. "We have to find evidence that can reveal the truth of the Noco experiment."
Lily nodded. Although she was a little scared, she still mustered up her courage and followed Gerling to the experimental table. There was an open notebook on the experimental table. Gerling quickly flipped through the contents on it, and his face gradually became solemn.
"These are experimental records... Noco is conducting genetic modification experiments." Gerlin whispered, "There are also detailed data on various organisms. It's really horrifying."
"What exactly does he want to achieve?" Lily was confused and at a loss.
"The pursuit of power may be an endless goal." Gerlin's voice was low and firm. "What Noko Guratu Fasr wants is most likely an existence that transcends humans."
Lily looked at the records and became angry: "This kind of experiment is totally inhumane!"
"We don't have time to stay here." Gelling interrupted her thoughts and quickly began to take pictures of the records on the laboratory table for later use. "We must leave here as soon as possible and notify others."
"Yes, hurry up." Lily followed closely behind Gerlin, but her heart was still restless. At this moment, they heard a few deep footsteps from behind, which made their hearts jump to their throats.
"Hurry! Find a place to hide!" Gerlin looked nervous and pulled Lily to a dark corner nearby.
"Will they be discovered if they come?" Lily asked in a low voice.
"I don't know, but we can only pray." Gerling's voice was almost deafening, his eyes fixed on the entrance of the laboratory, his heart beating wildly.
The door was pushed open, and a tall figure walked in. It was Noko Guratu Fasl. He scanned the laboratory, as if looking for something. The assistant followed closely behind him and whispered, "Master Fasl, the experiment is not going as expected. Many organisms are reacting abnormally."
Noko frowned and said in a cold voice: "Abnormal? This cannot be tolerated. Find the problem and complete the experiment within seven days!"
Lily covered her mouth quietly, thinking to herself, "What on earth will they do?"
"Yes, Master Fazl," the assistant responded hastily, fear evident in his tone, "We will do our best."
"As soon as possible, as soon as possible." Noko said in a low voice, his eyes wandering around the laboratory, as if looking for any clues. He turned around and walked towards the laboratory table to check the records there.
"Who are you two?" The assistant suddenly turned around, his eyes as sharp as a knife, and rushed towards them.
"Let's go!" Gerlin whispered to Lily, his heart tightening, and he pulled her to escape to the passage on the other side.
"No!" the assistant roared, and chased after him decisively. Noko's face changed slightly, and then he turned around and chased after him.
Lily and Gerlin ran wildly in the passage, their hearts filled with fear and anxiety. Gerlin quickly turned around and saw Noko and his assistant approaching quickly. He took a deep breath and shouted at the top of his lungs: "We have to hurry up, we can't be caught by them!"
"I know!" Lily gritted her teeth and followed Gerlin, rushing to the end of the passage. Behind them came the deep roar of Noko, like the pursuit of the god of death, which made them more anxious.
Finally, they rushed out of the corridor and returned to the dark closet, their hearts full of hope. Gerling quickly closed the closet door, leaned against it, and listened to the movement outside.
"They can't catch up, right?" Lily asked nervously, her face covered in sweat.
"It should be safe for now." Gellin panted, but he was still worried and confused. The terrible experimental records of Noko flashed through his mind, and his determination became stronger.
Lily's eyes were firm and gentle: "We can't just give up like this, we have to uncover these secrets and let more people know the truth."
"Yes, we can't let Noco continue his crazy experiment." Gerlin nodded, his heart full of responsibility, "Once we get out, we will immediately seek help."
"Let's complete this mission together." Lily smiled and held Gerlin's hand tightly.
At this moment, their hearts seemed to be closely connected, and they worked together to face the greater challenges that were about to come.
