Hogwarts Lion Girl

Chapter 166 Hagrid's New Favorite

"Hermione is really kind and always thinks of others."

"By the way, did you have the Care of Magical Creatures class this morning? How's Hagrid's blasting-tailed skrewt?" Ron suddenly changed the subject.

"Don't mention it, that blasting-tailed skrewt was a disaster!" Harry exaggeratedly described the morning class, "It had a bad temper and sprayed poisonous stingers everywhere, almost hurting someone!"

Colin patted his chest with lingering fear, "Luckily I chose Divination, otherwise I would have fainted from the shock."

Ginny listened with great interest and asked curiously, "Really? So how is it now?"

"Hagrid locked it up. I guess we have to wait until it calms down before we can continue with the class." Harry shrugged. "But I still think that blasting-tailed skrewt is pretty cool."

"Cool? Aren't you afraid of being shot by its stinger?" Ron looked horrified.

"It's okay. As long as you're careful, nothing will happen." Harry said nonchalantly. "It's Salina's turn to have the Protection of Magical Creatures class this afternoon, right? You better be careful!"

Salina smiled and nodded, looking forward to the afternoon classes.

……

For the afternoon class, Salina and her classmates went to Hagrid's hut.

Just as they reached the door, a huge monster swooped out and knocked Colin, who was walking in front, to the ground.

"Fang! Come back here!" Hagrid shouted gruffly, pulling the huge hound off Colin.

Colin got up, brushed off the dust on his body, with an excited smile on his face: "It's okay, Hagrid, I'm not afraid at all!" He seemed to be very honored to be knocked down by Fang.

Hagrid laughed and pointed to an empty space in the distance and said, "Come on, kids, stand back. Today we are going to learn about a very dangerous creature - the blasting-tailed skrewt!"

The students all stretched their necks curiously and looked in the direction of Hagrid's finger.

I saw a huge creature lying in an open space, motionless.

It has a hard gray-brown shell, and looks like an enlarged version of a shelled lobster. Its back is covered with spikes, and its abdomen is densely packed with dozens of long and thin legs.

"Wow!" Colin couldn't help but exclaim.

He had never seen such a strange creature before, and he couldn't help feeling a little scared and excited.

"Don't be fooled by its quietness now. It can spit fire!" Hagrid said in an exaggerated tone, "and its stinger is very dangerous. Once stung, the consequences will be disastrous!"

Hearing Hagrid's words, the students couldn't help but take a few steps back.

"What does it eat?" asked a timid voice.

"It likes to eat meat," said Hagrid, pulling out a piece of bloody raw meat from the basket behind him and throwing it far away, "Like this!"

The piece of raw meat fell precisely in front of the exploding-tailed slug. The originally motionless exploding-tailed slug seemed to suddenly come alive, raised its head abruptly, opened its big mouth full of sharp teeth, and swallowed the piece of raw meat in one gulp.

"Ugh..." Ginny couldn't help but dry heaving. A strong smell of rotten fish and shrimp came from the direction of the exploding-tailed skrewt, making her feel nauseous.

"Look! It's going to spit fire!" Someone shouted, and suddenly a ball of sparks came out from the tail of the exploding slug, and then a flame spurted out from its tail and rushed straight into the sky!

"Wow!" The students all exclaimed and looked at the scene in amazement.

"This is the blaster's defense mechanism," Hagrid explained. "When it feels threatened, it sprays fire and shoots the spikes on its tail like sparks to attack the enemy."

"It's so scary!" A girl whispered. She really couldn't imagine how she could get close to such a dangerous creature.

"See?" Hagrid grinned, his tone full of pride. "This is the Blast-Ended Skrewt. Isn't it beautiful?"

Salina looked at the huge monster in front of her that was constantly spewing fire and couldn't associate it with "beautiful".

She asked cautiously, "Hagrid, where did this blasting-tailed skrewt come from?"

Hagrid's smile grew even brighter. He cleared his throat and lowered his voice, as if sharing a secret. "This is my masterpiece! I crossed a manticore with a fire crab. It took me six years and more than sixty fire crabs to breed this one!"

Salina opened her eyes wide in surprise. She looked at the blasting-tailed skrewt, then at Hagrid, and asked in disbelief, "A manticore? A fire crab? Hagrid, this is too dangerous! Besides, it's illegal to breed new magical creatures!"

Hagrid waved his hand nonchalantly: "Oh, Salina, don't worry about that. I just want to create a more powerful magical creature. Look, how majestic it is!" As he said that, he threw another piece of meat at the blasting-tailed skrewt.

"Don't worry, Salina," Hagrid seemed to see what she was thinking and comforted her, "The blasting-tailed skrewt is very docile. As long as you don't provoke it, it won't attack you."

Salina forced a smile, but secretly decided in her heart that she would stay as far away from such "docile" creatures as possible in the future.

"But, Hagrid," Salina couldn't help but ask, "Where did the manticore come from? Did you catch it yourself?"

Hagrid scratched his head, his eyes flickering. "Ah, well... it's a long story. I found it in a swamp deep in the Forbidden Forest."

Hagrid suddenly stopped, as if realizing that he had said too much. He cleared his throat and changed the subject: "Anyway, it's not easy to breed blasting-tailed skrewts. They are very picky eaters! In addition to raw meat, they also like to eat..."

Hagrid began to talk incessantly about the food preferences of the blasting-tailed skrewts, but the other students had lost interest in Hagrid's "masterpiece".

"It's disgusting!" a Gryffindor girl complained, covering her nose.

"I thought it was some magical creature," said a Hufflepuff boy disappointedly, "but it turned out to be an ugly monster that can breathe fire!"

Only Luna Lovegood, a Ravenclaw student, showed any interest in the blast-end skrewt.

She opened her round eyes wide, observing the blasting-tailed skrewt's every move with curiosity, and asked some strange questions from time to time.

"Hagrid, do you think the flames of the skrewts could be used for cooking?"

"Are their spines poisonous? How poisonous are they?"

"Will it eat the Scimitar-horned Beast?"

Hagrid was surprised and amused by Luna's questions. He patiently answered them one by one and did not forget to give Ravenclaw a few points.
