The intercity train from Beijing to Tianjin is very fast and can reach Tianjin in more than half an hour.

However, it took the girls nearly an hour to take the subway from Peking University to Beijing South Railway Station.

Including the time spent waiting for the train and checking tickets, it took them two hours to arrive in Jinshi.

Gao Yang's home is in Hedong District, Jinshi, about eight or nine kilometers away from Jinshi Station where they arrived.

Gao Yang asked her cousin who was on vacation to pick them up.

Her cousin was estimated to be over 190cm tall, with thick eyebrows, big eyes, a square face, bronze skin, and he stood straight with a righteous look.

Gao Yang introduced several roommates and her cousin, whose name was Gao Yan.

Gao Yan greeted the girls and invited them to get in the car.

Gao Yang got on the passenger seat, while Su Xing and the other three girls sat in the back seat.

Gao Yan started the car and drove towards Gao Yang's house.

Pei Shiqi whispered to Su Xing beside her, "Brother Gao Yang is a soldier, right?"

Su Xing nodded slightly and replied to her in a whisper, "A bit like that."

Soon they arrived at Gao Yang's house.

As soon as Gao Yang took out the key, the door opened from the inside.

Standing inside was a tall, amiable-looking woman in her forties, wearing an apron.

"Mom." Gao Yang shouted.

Su Xing, Pei Shiqi, and Zhang Caifeng said in unison, "Hello, Auntie."

"Okay." Gao Yang's mother greeted them with a smile, "Xiao Su, Xiao Zhang, and Xiao Pei, right? I've heard Yangyang mention you a long time ago. Come in."

As she spoke, she handed slippers to several girls.

Everyone entered the house and found that only Gao Yang's mother was at home.

"Mom, my dad hasn't come back yet?" Gao Yang asked.

"He's busy at work. Don't worry about him. He may not be able to come back in the next few days."

Gao Yang had long been accustomed to her father often not being at home during holidays, so she didn't say anything.

Gao Yang's mother brought out several plates of washed and cut fruits from the kitchen and called the girls, "Hurry up and sit down. Eat some fruits first. Lunch will be ready soon."

Pei Shiqi said: "Auntie, please stop busying yourself, we are not hungry yet."

"It's already ten o'clock. It's almost time for lunch. We have to eat lunch normally."

"Just a simple home-cooked meal, don't make it too complicated." Su Xing said.

Zhang Caifeng, "Let's help too."

"It's just some home-cooked dishes. It's not a big deal. Why bother? You guys, just sit down. Yangyang, Xiaoyan, you guys should keep these little guests company."

Gao Yang also said: "There is no need for you. Come on, I will take you to put your things in the room first."

Gao's house has four bedrooms and two living rooms. Her parents live in the master bedroom, there is a room for her in the second bedroom, one is a guest bedroom, and the other is a study.

Su Xing and Pei Shiqi stayed in the guest bedroom, while Zhang Caifeng slept in her room with Gao Yang.

The girls put their things away and then went to wash their hands.

Pei Shiqi asked Gao Yang: "Does anyone in your family serve in the army?"

As soon as they entered the house, they all noticed that everything in Gao Yang's house was arranged neatly and in order, especially the quilts in the bedroom, which were folded more neatly than the tofu blocks they had folded during military training.

There are military magazines on the corner of the table, and cups and other things that look like military supplies. There are also some small ornaments made of bullet shells on the display cabinet in the living room.

Gao Yang said: "My father is in a military unit in Binhai New Area. My mother is also in the military, but she is a technician."

Binhai New Area? Su Xing thought: It seems to be the navy.

Zhang Caifeng asked quietly, "Your brother is the same, right?"

She felt that her cousin Gao Yang looked a little scary.

Gao Yang nodded. "Yes, many of my family members and relatives are in the army. My father almost forced me to go to military school, but I prefer freedom and can't stand the rules of the army. Since I was a child, my father has scolded me a lot, saying that I am lazy and undisciplined."

Pei Shiqi recalled that during military training, although Gao Yang's housekeeping was acceptable, it was not particularly outstanding. In the dormitory, he would not fold the quilt into a tofu block, and he loved to lie on the bed and play games.

She couldn't help but say, "You really don't look like a soldier."

Gao Yang asked Pei Shiqi, "What are you talking about? That's my sister and I don't want to."

"Yes, yes, yes." Pei Shiqi rolled her eyes at her.

The girls returned to the living room, sat down, ate some fruit and started chatting.

Gao Yang was planning where to take his roommates these days.

Gao Yan would give some reference suggestions from time to time.

Finally, Gao Yang waved her hand and said to her cousin: "My car is not at home, so I will use your car first. I will drive your car to take my classmates out to play in the afternoon. Don't follow me. Just leave after lunch."

Gao Yan: "...Okay."

Soon, Gao Yang's mother started to bring food to the restaurant.

Gao Yang and a few girls went over to help serve the dishes and get the bowls and chopsticks.

Gao Yang's mother just said that it was a simple home-cooked meal, but in fact she had been busy all morning preparing a table of food.

She asked a few girls and Gao Yan to sit down.

"These are some of our Tianjin specialties. I don't know if they suit your taste."

Su Xing said: "They all smell delicious."

"Then try it."

Gao Yang also introduced the names of the dishes to his roommates one by one, "This is the carp in a net, this is the gluten, this is the fried pork tenderloin, this is the fried pork belly, which is my mother's specialty..."

During this lunch, the girls were very considerate and ate a lot. They also praised Gao Yang's mother's cooking skills.

Gao Yang's mother smiled so well that her eyes curved into crescents.

After lunch and a short rest, Gao Yang took his cousin's car keys and took a few girls out to play.

As Gao Yang started the car, he said to his roommates, "Most people who come to Jinshi to play go to places like the Ancient Culture Street and the Italian Style Street first. In fact, the more lively places in Jinshi are some Taobao Streets. My home is not far from the famous Taobao Street. I'll take you there, but there may be a lot of people."

Zhang Caifeng had no objection, "Sure."

Pei Shiqi, "It's not a tourist spot for taking photos or checking in. It's just for shopping. It doesn't matter if there are more people."

Su Xing said: "It's okay, I really like places where I can shop for treasures."

She was really interested. In her previous life, she had seen a video of a blogger from Jinshi, in which he said that he missed the Taobao Street in Jinshi. Unfortunately, some of the once bustling Taobao streets had been closed in the past few years, and some were no longer as bustling as before.

Mingjia Taobao Street seems to have closed in 2016.

Now she has the opportunity to visit this Taobao Street which has not yet closed, and she is quite looking forward to it.

Gao Yang looked for a place to park when he was still some distance away from the Famous Artists Taobao Street.

"There are too many people inside, and it might be hard to park. Let's walk a few hundred meters."

Several girls got off the bus.

There happened to be an aunt selling water nearby, so they walked over and bought a few bottles of water.

Pei Shiqi noticed that the aunt selling water had a cardboard sign in front of the refrigerator that said, "Free directions."

She let out a surprised sound, "Huh?"

The aunt asked enthusiastically: "Where are you going? Do you want to ask for directions?"

Gao Yang waved his hand, thanked the aunt, and walked towards Taobao Street with a few roommates.

As she walked, she said, "In our Jinshi area, the roads don't run exactly north and south, and many locals get lost. In the past, if we took the bus to a place we didn't go to often, we had to call the bus service hotline to find out which bus to take and which stop to get off at, and then transfer to another bus. When I was a child, there were many stalls with road signs on the street, some were free and some were charged, but if you really went to ask for directions, whether you could find the place in the end was up to luck. Although there are electronic maps on mobile phones now, the navigation is often a mess."
