[HP] Being a problem student at Hogwarts
Chapter 38 S.P.E.W
Tom had a bad guess.
"What did you do?" he asked Hermione in a low voice.
Hermione said nothing.
They were quickly driven back to their dormitories by their prefects, and when they were allowed back to the common room the next day, the common room had been cleaned.
"This has never happened before." The prefects warned them seriously, their faces flushed with anger. "We will never allow your dirty socks to be thrown around! If we find out who is so unhygienic, ...Just wait and see!”
"Gryffindor has never been so embarrassed." Percy said through gritted teeth, coming over to warn his brothers one by one.
"What's going on?" Ron asked.
"Some uncouth guy threw clothes and scared the elves to tears! As a result, all the house elves refused to clean Gryffindor." Percy said distractedly, "Professor McGonagall has gone to comfort them, but If something like this happens again, Professor McGonagall will ask us to clean the castle ourselves and improve our memories."
Hermione bit her lip tightly.
After Percy walked away, Harry tentatively called her: "...Hermione?"
"I won't give up." Hermione said quickly in a low voice.
"You?" Ron looked at her strangely.
"Not dirty socks!" Hermione was stung by Ron's eyes and shouted angrily.
Tom quickly pulled them out of the common room.
As they strolled by the Black Lake, Hermione continued to explain: "I specially bought a dozen new socks and put them in every corner with great effort. Because if the house elves accidentally picked them up while cleaning, Clothes, they’re free!”
"You're crazy," Ron said.
"First of all, the clothes must be handed to them by the owner. Otherwise, do you really think those pure-blood wizards who think highly of themselves will wash the clothes themselves?" Ron asked.
"Secondly," Tom added, "you do not own them. They are elves at Hogwarts, and you are not the Headmaster, nor do you own Hogwarts Castle."
"Did you just put socks on?" Harry asked. He always felt that if the elf could wash clothes, he shouldn't be so angry over a few pairs of socks.
"There are some words of encouragement." Hermione began to twist her fingers again. "I persuaded them to unite and fight for the rights they deserve from wizards, such as respect, wages and holidays."
"Handwritten?" Tom stopped and couldn't help asking.
"Why not?" Hermione found this question puzzling.
Of course because you'll be caught soon. Tom thought helplessly.
“I also customized the badge,” she said proudly, “S.P.E.W.”
"'Vomiting'?" Harry asked confused, not understanding why the topic suddenly turned to vomiting.
"It's not vomiting," Hermione said impatiently. "It's S-P-E-W. That means the Society for the Promotion of House-Elves Welfare."
"Never heard of it," Ron said.
"Of course you haven't heard of it," Hermione said crisply, "I just recently made up my mind to start it. I originally wanted to name it the Movement to Ban the Cruel Treatment of Our Magical Creature Friends and Improve Their Legal Status - but It didn’t quite fit. So I made that the title of our association’s manifesto.”
"Ah?" Ron asked slightly surprised, "So how many members does the association have?"
"Well - if you also participate - there will be four." Hermione said optimistically, "Hogwarts only had four founders at the beginning."
"You think we're willing to walk around with badges that say 'vomit' on them?" Ron said angrily, "I've told you countless times, they like it! Your reckless actions have caused trouble. My son is here, can’t you see? Are you really going to make all Gryffindor students clean the castle with their own hands every day?”
"Our short-term goals," Hermione said, louder than Ron, as if she hadn't heard him at all, "are to ensure that house elves are paid a fair wage and have a good working environment. Our long-term goals include changing No wand laws and fighting for an elf to be admitted to the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures because it’s appalling how underrepresented the interests of elves are.”
"How are we going to do it?" Harry asked helplessly.
"First, we need to develop members. At the same time, we need to awaken the house elves and make them realize that their situation is unfair and needs to be improved," Hermione said.
"I think we should first solve the trouble you caused today." Tom pointed to the castle and motioned for them to listen.
So everyone shut up, and now the voice of the broadcast became clear: "Miss Hermione Granger, please go to the hall to find Professor McGonagall immediately after hearing the broadcast."
"I didn't do anything wrong," Hermione said stubbornly, but everyone could see the uneasiness on her face.
Professor McGonagall was very angry with her, looked at her sternly, and said, "If I hadn't confirmed repeatedly that it was your handwriting, Miss Granger, I would never have believed that an obedient student like you had done such a thing. Come."
She was leading them to the kitchen, demanding that Hermione apologize to the frightened house elves and promise never to humiliate them in this way again.
"This is not humiliation!" Hermione cried, "I just want to give them the freedom they deserve!"
She stopped and refused to go forward. She looked at Professor McGonagall with tearful eyes and said, "The slave status of elves can be traced back many centuries. I can't believe that no one has taken measures against it. And as enlightened as you are, The professor who is so reasonable actually thinks that what I did is wrong!”
Professor McGonagall became even more angry and said coldly: "What you consider to be a well-intentioned approach is not only unacceptable to the house elves, but also causes trouble to your classmates, and yet you have no regrets about it?" 7K妏敩
Hermione choked.
"You think the school's treatment of house elves is questionable. Why haven't you reported it to the school for discussion with the teachers? Or have you done any research on the elf community? You take it for granted, and you still don't think you have any What did you do wrong? Fortunately, I hid it for you and didn't tell the students that the elf strike today was all because of your good deeds!"
Hermione cried harder. Half of it is because of grievance, and the other half is because of shame. Hearing Professor McGonagall's scolding, she realized that her behavior seemed to be ill-considered.
"And you!" Professor McGonagall turned angrily to the children who were following her, "As a friend, you didn't even try to dissuade her!"
Now Ron was so aggrieved that he was about to cry. Just as he was about to speak, Harry pulled him to shut up.
Harry, who has extensive experience in dealing with anger, believes that they had better shut up and listen to the instructions at this time, otherwise they would just sweep the tail of the typhoon and step forward to block the muzzle of the gun.
