[HP] Being a problem student at Hogwarts
Chapter 253 Lagrange’s Mean Value Theorem
The weather was terrible. They were sitting in the Charms classroom, with heavy rain beating on the windows. The room was full of croaking frogs and crows - Professor Flitwick wanted them to practice the Silent Spell.
Tom would certainly prefer a crow to a slippery-skinned frog. After he took out the bird snacks from his pocket, the crow he was given was happy to stand quietly on the table waiting for his spell.
He was so well-behaved that Tom felt a little pang in his conscience.
"Ahem," he cleared his throat and muttered, "Okay, I'll try not to have any problems... at least that's what I hope..." He raised the wand customized for him by the black and white devils - After a few mist spells, his increased control over magic made him think he could try using the wand again, at least this would make him look more normal in class.
"Silent!" He thrust the wand forward, carefully inputting a little bit of magic power, and then watched the crow's beak grow together, as if it was originally a whole body.
"..." Tom had to use some effort to hold down the panicked crow without hurting it, "Don't! Don't panic! The curse will stop!"
The crow's beak returned to normal, and now even snacks could not appease it. The poor little guy flew away in panic.
Mist hesitated and asked vague questions, asking him if he wanted to catch it.
"Forget it." Tom sighed and put his wand away.
The frog on Harry's hand had swelled into a balloon shape, and no matter how anxiously he poked it, the frog kept making noises.
"You're squeezing it to death, Harry." Hermione raised her wand, "Silent!"
The frog realized he was mute mid-croak and looked at her reproachfully.
"Thanks." Harry put the frog back on the table and breathed a sigh of relief.
"Keep practicing!" Hermione looked at Harry seriously. "And you," she turned to Tom, "don't think I don't see... you just lack practice."
"Okay," Tom shrugged, opening his hand to Hermione's frog, "silently!"
The frog melted into a green jelly-like mass.
There was indeed no sound, not even breathing.
"Grasp the structure of the spell, Mr. Locke." Professor Flitwick's high-pitched voice came from behind, "The more wandless magic is, the more carefully you have to understand the structure of the spell. The more space you leave for the magic to play freely. The bigger it is, the more likely it is that something will go wrong with the spell.”
He waved his wand and turned the frog back, and continued: "Or strengthen your thoughts and let the magic know exactly what effect you want to achieve."
"Try again," he motioned to Tom.
Tom opened his hand to the frog again and said attentively: "Silent and silent!"
The frog opened his mouth and made no sound.
"Very well," Flitwick said approvingly, waving his wand in an attempt to break the spell - unsuccessfully. He cleared his throat, and on the third try, the frog finally croaked again.
"Mr. Weasley, let me see the effect of your practice." He turned around and said to Ron nonchalantly - he didn't notice it himself, but several students nearby saw it, and Professor Flitwick's hair changed. It became a curled branch - he cast too much spells, and he couldn't suppress his fairy blood.
"What -? Oh - oh, okay," Ron said in a panic, not daring to laugh in front of Flitwick, "Uh - silently!"
He stabbed too hard and hit the crow's eye. The crow let out a deafening cry and pecked the back of his hand hard.
As expected, Ron's homework included more exercises on the Silent Spell.
Because of the rain, recess can be kept indoors. They found a seat in a noisy classroom on the second floor. Peeves dreamily floated upward next to the chandelier, occasionally blowing a drop of ink onto someone's head. As soon as they sat down, Angelina squeezed through the crowd of chatting students.
"I've got the go-ahead!" she said. "Reorganize the Quidditch team!"
"Great!" Ron and Harry said together.
"Yes," Angelina said with a cheerful face, "I asked Professor McGonagall, and I thought she might have asked Dumbledore - in short, Umbridge had to give in. Ha! So I invite you tonight Call the court, okay, we have to make up time. Do you realize it's only three weeks until the first game?"
She squeezed past them, barely dodging the ink beads blown by Peeves, which landed on the body of a first-year student next to her.
Tom and Hermione exchanged a look, agreeing that after Umbridge's near-vocal breakup with Dumbledore, her sudden agreement to reorganize the team might be problematic.
Sure enough, during lunch, they saw the supplementary instructions to the "Article 24 Education Order", which stated that "any student found to have formed or joined any organization, association, team, or club with the approval of the Senior Investigator will be immediately expelled." A further explanation was given: Every student who joins an officially approved organization, association, team or club must submit an application for approval before they can officially participate in activities, otherwise it will be considered a violation.
Harry and Ron were speechless.
Bai was happy. The Quidditch team was successfully formed, and the player qualification review became a new problem.
Sure enough, Angelina once again walked through the crowd with a defeated expression.
"I wrote a template for the application form, here it is." She said weakly, "You can write it down and give it to me later. I will collect it all and send it to her for approval before dinner... For Merlin's sake, in recent times, You all just stay calm and don’t mess with her, okay?”
Harry stared at the plate and said nothing. Ron wanted to raise his hands and swear.
After Angelina walked away, Harry whispered: "The Defense Against the Dark Arts team must be dealt with!"
Tom stood up and went to get the sweet soup on the other side, pretending not to hear what they were saying.
This isn't the last bad news of the day.
Angelina's training arrangements were ruined by Umbridge's new interpretation of the education order. Although it's hard to say whether training counts as participation in an activity - the Weasley twins think official competition does - they all agree that it would be best not to test Umbridge in the near future.
In the evening they sat in the corner of the lounge, Harry and Ron were doing homework, while Hermione and Tom were each holding a large book and reading. It was raining heavily outside, and the sound of rushing water could be heard through the closed windows.
Suddenly Harry let out a short scream. He buried his face on the table and closed his eyes tightly to endure the burning pain of the scar on his forehead.
"What's wrong?" Several voices asked at the same time.
Tom also held on to the edge of the table, and his intuition told him to check the Dark Lord's ghost on the robe of knowledge. For a moment, the pale face twitched.
"Scar..." Harry said through gritted teeth, waiting for the sudden sharp pain to subside.
Hermione cast the soundproofing charm quickly.
Ron's eyes flickered between Tom and Harry. "But..." Ron asked in surprise, "He-he can't be very close to us now, can he?"
Every time Harry's scar hurts, it's basically because he met Voldemort.
Ron's hand holding the pen moved slightly and he watched Tom's reaction from the corner of his eyes. He wanted to get the wand, but he thought it would be a bit hurtful to think that Tom had not digested the soul pieces but was possessed instead.
"Yes," Harry whispered, finally sitting up and rubbing his forehead, "He may be thousands of miles away. I hurt because... he... was angry."
Harry hadn't meant to say that at all, it sounded to him like it was coming from a stranger - but he immediately knew it was true. He didn't know where this consciousness came from, but he did know that no matter where he was or what he was doing, Voldemort was losing his temper.
"He seems very angry." Tom separated his thoughts and sank into the soul piece, sensing the chaotic images.
Ron's hand relaxed.
"You... saw him?" Ron asked in a low voice, "... could it be that you saw an illusion?"
Harry sat quietly, staring at his feet, letting his thoughts and memories relax amid the lingering pain...
"He wanted to do something, but he couldn't get it done fast enough."
Harry glanced up at Tom, who nodded.
"How... was this done?" Ron looked at them in awe.
"No matter how you do it," Hermione said quickly, "stop it now! Since you can read each other's thoughts, they can read yours!"
"No," Harry shook his head, "I think it was just his mood. I had some lightning sensations... Dumbledore said last year that this would happen... He said that when Voldemort was near me, or when he felt When there is hatred, I will feel it..."
"Shut up!" Hermione slapped the table, "Look at me! Harry!"
She said sternly: "What is Lagrange's mean value theorem?"
"Huh?" Harry was speechless, and immediately threw Voldemort's anger out of the sky.
