Admiral of Hogwarts
015 Diagon Alley
Dark, dirty. This was Hugo's first impression when he walked into the Leaky Cauldron. As the face of the wizarding world, Hugo thought that the Leaky Cauldron described in the novel was just an exaggeration. But now that he had walked into the famous bar, he realized that the badness of the house might have been greatly downplayed for the sake of children's literature.
There was a layer of dirty sludge all over the room, whether it was the table, stools, wine cabinet or the floor. Although it is not very thick, it can be seen even if the light in the room is very dark.
"It feels like these places haven't been cleaned for hundreds of years." Mr. Granger lowered his head and said to Hugo, "I feel like I need to pull the soles of my shoes from the ground every step I take. I really don't know what these wizards are. How can you endure this kind of environment?”
At this time, Hugo had adapted to the dim light here. He saw several witches wearing pointed wizard hats sitting at the table that could be illuminated by the sunlight coming from the windows, drinking some kind of alcoholic beverage. There were also piles of large and small bags of things. It looks like he has just finished shopping and is having a drink here. In another dark corner, there were two hooded guys who seemed to be saying something furtively.
The only good thing was that both the bar owner's clothes and the glass he was cleaning looked very clean. The wine bottles in the cabinet behind him have also been polished to a bright light, making this bar finally look worthy of its name.
After seeing Hugo and the four of them come in, the guests in the bar just glanced at them and continued to do their own things. Only the boss raised his head and looked at them for a while, then put down his glass and looked down at Hugo and his sister. The two said: "Are you all new students at Hogwarts this year?"
"Yes, both my sister and I." Hugo took a step forward and said, "According to Professor McGonagall's instructions the day before yesterday, we and our parents came here to buy some things we need for school."
Tom, the owner of the Leaky Cauldron, just glanced at Hugo's parents and continued to focus on Hugo and Hermione. "Then what you want to go to is Diagon Alley, please come with me."
"Thank you, sir." As a dentist who has to deal with people all day long, Mr. Granger can naturally tell that the owner of this bar has ignored himself and his wife to some extent. However, out of politeness, he expressed his gratitude to the boss for putting down his business to lead the way for the children.
Following the boss Tom, the four Granger family walked across the bar to the small walled patio behind the bar. There is nothing here except a trash can and some weeds.
At this time, Tom walked to the wall and took out his wand, and then while counting the bricks on the wall, he said: "Remember, the trash can counts three bricks upward, and then two bricks horizontally."
After saying this, he tapped his wand three times on the brick he had just pointed out. Then he looked back at the Hugo siblings and said amidst the dull sound of the moving bricks. "Then use your wand to knock this brick three times, and then you can open the passage to Diagon Alley. You will need to do these things after you have your own wand, so don't forget this Things. Finally, I wish you all the best in Diagon Alley."
"Thank you." Hugo said politely, and then watched the magical street appear in his field of vision little by little. At this moment, he suddenly thought of something that he hadn't figured out when watching it before. "Then how should we come back later?"
"Just hit the same brick three times with the wand." Tom, who was returning to his bar, turned around and said. "So the first time you enter Diagon Alley, you should buy yourself a wand that belongs to you. By the way, you should know that your Muggle money is useless."
"I know. Professor McGonagall said this when she came. It made us go to Gringotts immediately to exchange the money we have into the metal coins used in the wizarding world."
"That's good. Professor McGonagall has always been so rigorous." Tom said as he walked towards the bar. "He's not like Professor Trelawney who teaches Divination and always forgets to say something."
After crossing the portal, a magical street appeared in front of a family of four: there was a cobblestone road going forward under their feet, and on both sides of the street were various magical shops. Some of the shops selling food set up parasols directly on the side of the street, and many wizards sat under those parasols, eating and chatting.
"It's such a historic street." Looking at the magical scenery in front of him, Mr. Granger held it in for a while, and then he reluctantly said this sentence after the passage behind him turned into a wall again.
Because if you exclude those magical elements, such as the blue rabbit fireworks that can explode in the air in broad daylight, this street will have an ancient and outdated feeling. After all, with magical maintenance, buildings with hundreds or thousands of years of history can easily be preserved to this day.
Fortunately, even in the UK, there are quaint tourist towns like Wuzhen that Hugo visited in his previous life, so apart from the initial shock, several people quickly calmed down and began to look at the shops on the street.
The store closest to the passage is a store selling various crucibles. The dazzling sunlight fell on a stack of pots outside the shop door. There is a sign hanging above the pot, which says that it is a large pot made of copper, brass, tin, and silver. It has a complete range of models, is self-stirring and can be folded.
"I remember that you need to buy a crucible on your list." Mrs. Granger said, taking out a piece of parchment from her handbag, looking at it, and then stuffed the parchment back into her handbag. "But before we buy everything, I think we should go to the bank now and exchange the wizard's money."
On the way, the Grangers felt that their impression of the wizarding world had become much better. After all, TVs in this era were all bulky ones with huge picture tubes on the back, so the two parents found it very interesting to see posters like that with a thin piece of paper affixed to the wall that could display animated images.
Soon, they passed through the group of wizards and various strange shops on the street and arrived in front of a snow-white building that towered above the surrounding shops. Next to the shiny bronze door, stood a man dressed in scarlet. A short figure in a gold-plated uniform.
"They should be the legendary Goblins." The Granger family passed through the bronze gate while the goblins guarding the door ignored it. Along the way, Hugo kept thinking about one question, that is, what he had chosen back then. Why did the translator translate the word goblin into goblin during the translation? Obviously, the appearance of the two creatures is in the sky and the other is in the earth.
After entering, a young-looking goblin came over and bowed to them, then led them into a tall marble hall.
There were about a hundred goblins sitting on high stools behind a row of long counters in the hall. Some used copper scales to weigh coins, and some used eyepieces to examine gems, while making notes in a large ledger. There are countless doors in the hall, leading to different places, and many fairies guide visitors in and out of these doors.
