Hogwarts from another world

Chapter 5 The Owl, the Cat and the Toad

After leaving the Gregovich wand store, Penelope Clivat continued to take Matthew with her to buy the necessary supplies for Hogwarts.

They first went to Madam Malkin's robe store, where Matthew bought three sets of black wizard robes, a black pointed hat, dragon skin protective clothing and a winter cloak.

Then came Partridge's Crucible Shop and Slugjigs' Pharmacy, where he purchased pewter cauldrons, brass scales, and a complete set of crystal vials.

The next step was to Flourish and Blotts Bookstore, where the two bought a complete set of textbooks for fifth-year and first-year Hogwarts students. The clerks at Flourish and Blott Bookstore have already prepared these textbooks and packaged them in cartons, so there is no need to go to the bookshelf to select them yourself.

It was all free, and at least Matthew didn't see Penello paying a single copper to the shopkeepers.

However, the free ones are often the most expensive, and he understands this deeply in his heart.

Nearly two hours later, Matthew left Flourish and Blotts Bookstore, carrying packages of various sizes and odd shapes.

Since it's getting late now, the weather is getting hotter. The scorching sun grilled the earth mercilessly, and the cobblestone floor seemed to be scalding hot. Matthew put down the luggage in his hand, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and took out the parchment list.

“Just buy another pet,” he exclaimed. “An owl or a cat or a toad.”

"Okay, let's end this quickly." Penello seemed to be too excited: "Follow me."

Crossing the street, they came to a store called "Magic Zoo".

The space inside is very crowded, with cages hanging on every inch of the wall; and filled with all kinds of animal noises, it's a noisy pet store.

A giant tortoise with a hard shell encrusted with gems displayed its body in the window; a fat white rabbit suddenly transformed into a silk top hat and back again; and a basket of furry Strange things, screaming and making noise.

The store owner was a female owner wearing thick glasses. When she saw Matthew and Penello coming in, she asked kindly: "Do you need anything, dear?"

"My companion is a first-year freshman at Hogwarts." Penello took a breath and took the initiative to introduce: "He hopes to buy a pet."

"Oh." The witch nodded, and then looked Matthew up and down: "I suggest you choose an owl instead of a cat or a toad; children all like owls. It can deliver letters and packages for you, which is very good. messenger."

"Owl?" Matthew murmured, but he made a cross in his heart.

I don’t know anyone else in the wizarding world except Penelope Clivat, whom I met yesterday, and I’m not allowed to have any contact with the Muggle world.

In this case, if I buy an owl, is it to be used as an ornamental animal?

He cleared his throat: "Madam, may I ask, what are the roles of cats and toads in magic?"

"If a cat has the blood of a cat, it will be very smart and have an incredible ability, that is, it will pay special attention to those who are suspicious and untrusted," the witch said.

"So is it very likely that a pet cat has the blood of a cat?" Matthew asked curiously.

"That's not very high," the witch replied.

By saying this, she can basically default to zero. Matthew thought to himself.

In his previous life, Matthew had been a shit shoveler for more than ten years; after coming to the wizarding world, he didn't want to raise another uncle.

Unless that uncle has special abilities.

"So, do toads have any magical effects?" Matthew continued to ask.

"The toad itself has no magical ability, but it has a very high magical sensitivity, so it is a good object for practicing spells and testing potions." The witch continued: "Especially for pharmacists Very useful because their skin can absorb liquids, making it easier to test potions that need to be taken orally."

It sounds a little more useful than the previous two. Matthew thought to himself.

"Then I'll buy a toad," he said without hesitation.

"Are you crazy, Wakefield?" Penelope Clivat glanced at her companion in disbelief: "Toads have not been popular at Hogwarts for many years. If you choose to bring a toad to school If you do, you will most likely be laughed at by other students."

"I just think they are cute," Matthew said innocently and romantically.

Since it's a personal hobby, Penello doesn't have anything to say.

"Then dear, you can choose a toad you like." The witch said with enthusiasm.

At the same time, she waved her magic wand, and a large glass box filled with various toads slowly moved in front of Matthew.

"There are red-eyed toads, flower-backed toads and red-bellied toads."

"Just choose this one." Matthew randomly picked one that was more pleasing to the eye.

"This is a black-socketed toad. They are very happy to get along with the wizard; but I must warn that they can be very noisy sometimes," the witch said with a smile.

At the same time, she put the toad that Matthew had selected into a small glass box, and then handed the entire glass box to Matthew.

Matthew took a closer look at his pet. It had a layer of black eye sockets around its eyes. It was not ugly, and could even be said to be a little cute.

"Thank you, ma'am."

"You're welcome."

After purchasing the last item on the list, carrying packages of all sizes and odd shapes, and holding a toad in a glass box in his arms, Matthew began to walk back to the Leaky Cauldron.

Penello sends the boy to his room at the Leaky Cauldron and hands him a letter.

"Wakefield, here is your ticket to Hogwarts." She said: "On September 1st, at King's Cross Station, Mr. Abbott will take you there."

"Thank you for taking care of me, Miss Crevat." Matthew took the letter.

"You're welcome, see you at Hogwarts." Penello said with a smile: "I hope you can be sorted into Ravenclaw by then, because I am the prefect of Ravenclaw."

She seemed to think that the boy in front of her might not understand what she meant, and then explained: "This is the name of the college. There are four houses in the school: Ravenclaw, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. .”

"Ravenclaw is the best house, Slytherin is for the conspirators, and Hufflepuff is the house for the mediocre."

"But I'd rather go to Hufflepuff than Gryffindor."

"What's wrong with Gryffindor?" Matthew asked curiously.

"Because Gryffindor is the house with the most dark wizards in the past century."
