Harry Potter and the Legend of the Temple
Chapter 4 Diagon Alley and Gringotts
The Leaky Cauldron is a small, inconspicuous bar located on the streets of London.
This kind of place is impossible for ordinary people to know or approach, but it has become the best refuge in the wizarding world. This is also thanks to the protection charm and Muggle expulsion charm of the bar.
"Oh, my God."
The Wiggins exclaimed when they saw the bar for the first time. The entire bar seemed extremely dark, with only a very small amount of sunlight filtering through the glass. The tables and chairs all looked a little dirty.
The customers inside all had strange postures. There were a few wizards in tattered wizard uniforms who were drinking and drunk alone with whiskey in their hands. There were also some witches who looked a little crazy.
However, Lewis never dared to question the strength of these people. Harry had told him that the identities of the people who came to the Leaky Cauldron were extremely complex, and it was best not to have too many conversations with them.
"Hey, Harry, long time no see. I didn't expect you to come here."
The person who greeted Lewis and his group was a tall, muscular human being. Lewis was really shocked when he saw the man's figure.
"Hagrid!"
Harry looked extremely excited and ran to hug Hagrid's huge body. Only then did Louis see Hagrid's appearance clearly.
He has a thick beard that covers his entire chin, thick hair, and wears an oversized moleskin coat. Although he is tall (almost as big as two and a half Louis), he is unusually amiable.
"My poor little Harry, how was your summer vacation? Did the Dursleys bully you?" Hagrid asked Harry with a series of questions.
"Everything is fine Hagrid." Harry looked particularly happy, "Oh, by the way, this is my friend Louis Wiggins and his parents, thanks to their care during the summer vacation. Louis, this is Hogwarts Keykeeper Rubeus Hagrid.”
"Hello, little one, since they are Harry's friends, they are also my Hagrid's friends." Hagrid stretched out his friendly hand and was held by Louis.
"Hello, Hagrid. I often hear Harry mention you. Please give me some advice at Hogwarts in the future." Louis nodded. Unexpectedly, he met the half-blood giant Hagrid not long after entering the Leaky Cauldron.
"It looks like you are going to Diagon Alley, right? No problem. I happen to be going to Knockturn Alley nearby to find medicine to get rid of slugs." Hagrid looked extremely enthusiastic, partly because he had met new friends. The joy and the unexpected joy of meeting Harry.
"Well... I promised Ron and Hermione that I would wait for them at the Leaky Cauldron, but Louis has a lot to buy, so he may not be able to go to Diagon Alley with you." Harry looked a little embarrassed.
Instead, Louis patted Harry's shoulder generously: "It's okay, Hagrid is with us. Let's meet at Flourish and Blotts Bookstore then?"
"Okay, I'll introduce you to Ron and Hermione then. You will definitely like them." Harry nodded affirmatively.
After temporarily separating from Harry Potter, the Lewis family followed Hagrid to the trash can in the backyard of the Leaky Cauldron. Hagrid winked at Louis. Just when Louis was confused, he took out a pink umbrella and knocked on the third brick above the trash can.
Suddenly, a magical scene appeared. The brick he knocked on shook and began to move. A small hole appeared in the middle. The hole became bigger and bigger. Soon, a wide enough path for Hagrid to pass appeared in front of them. The archway leads to a winding cobbled street with no end in sight.
"Welcome." Hagrid said to the Lewis family, "Welcome to Diagon Alley."
Louis' reaction was normal, but as Muggles, the Wiggins couple were still shocked when they saw this scene for the first time, although they knew that magic existed in this world.
"Your performance is better than Harry last year." Hagrid couldn't help but praise Louis.
After passing the long archway, Louis looked back and saw that the original archway suddenly narrowed and slowly retreated into a wall.
"Hagrid, I don't think we have wizard coins to buy things. I heard Harry said that we can exchange money at Gringotts..." Looking at the Diagon Alley with a dazzling array of goods, Louis suddenly felt his wallet tightening.
"Gringotts, oh." Hagrid looked around. After a while, he pointed at the snow-white building, then waved his hand, and Louis and others followed closely.
Entering the bronze door of Gringotts, Louis saw a real goblin for the first time, but this was very different from the goblin that Louis imagined. The goblin in front of him was more like the goblin mentioned in the novels of his previous life. Goblin creatures, but more intelligent than goblins.
"Goblins are very shrewd creatures, so wizards can safely entrust their money to their care." Hagrid lowered his voice and whispered in Louis' ear, "No one dares to come to Gringotts to steal money, unless he is a madman. "
The four of them walked along the long white steps to a tall marble hall. There were about a hundred goblins sitting on high stools behind a row of long counters. Some weighed coins with copper scales, and some weighed coins with copper scales. Examining the gems through the eyepiece, he scribbled entries in the large ledger. There are countless doors in the hall, leading to different places, and many fairies guide visitors in and out of these doors.
"If you want to change money here, the gold coins are Galleons, the silver coins are Sickles, and the copper coins are Nats."
"Seventeen Silver Sickles are combined into one Galleons, and twenty-nine Nats are combined into one Sickle. It's simple enough." Hagrid explained.
The Wiggins couple were obviously very generous and exchanged a whole bag of gold galleons for Louis, which made even Hagrid's eyes widen.
After leaving Gringotts, Hagrid separated from Louis. He was in a hurry because he had to go to Knockturn Alley to buy deworming medicine, so he gave Louis some general directions.
"If you want to buy a wand, it's best to go to Ollivander's shop. He is the best wand maker in Britain." Hagrid couldn't help but remind him before leaving.
So, when the Lewis family passed through the crowded crowd, they finally saw the peeling gold sign on the store door among thousands of storefronts. It read: Ollivander: Made since 382 BC A fine wand. In the dusty window, a solitary wand sat on a faded purple cushion.
Louis, who was about to step into it, was stopped by the Wiggins. The two looked at each other and said to Louis:
"My dear, you have grown up and have to make many choices on your own, so your father and I decided not to accompany you to choose a wand, but you have to remember that no matter what kind of person you become in the future, We will always support you."
After that, the Wiggins handed over a large part of their gold galleons to Lewis.
Looking at the heavy bag, Louis suddenly felt a sore nose. Although it was only a short three-month relationship for him, the Wiggins' open-mindedness made him feel the warmth of home again and again. .
He nodded cautiously, said goodbye to his parents, then took a deep breath and slowly opened the door to Ollivander's store.
