Everyday Players at Hogwarts

Chapter 129: Average-looking Slytherin Descendant

One of the most fascinating things about Hogwarts Castle is the many secrets it holds.

These secrets are not known to even Dumbledore himself.

However, there is only one secret that Dumbledore can guarantee that only he and Tom (Diary Tom) know among the living wizards.

That is the vast underground world.

And now, here, in Slytherin's Chamber of Secrets, he saw the skeleton of a Scottish cow.

The full name of Scottish cow is Scottish Highland cattle, a kind of cattle known as the longest hair in the animal kingdom, living in the cold and bleak Scottish Highlands. They are an ancient breed with a strong body and can digest plants that many other cattle avoid, and their long hair helps them withstand the test of severe cold and heavy rain.

And Scotland is the home of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and the magical village of Hogsmeade. The remote location and mountainous terrain make Scotland very suitable for hiding magical places that are not suitable for Muggles to see. In the eyes of other people in the magic world, the specific location of Hogwarts is unknown. But Dumbledore, as the headmaster, knew very well that it was located in the northwest highlands of Scotland (i.e. Sutherland County), because there were few people there.

Logically speaking, Dumbledore should not have been surprised to see the skeleton of a local native cattle in the Chamber of Secrets.

However, Dumbledore knew one thing, that is, the basilisk had never left Hogwarts, let alone the Forbidden Forest.

Otherwise, it would have been discovered long ago, and the eight-eyed giant spiders in the Forbidden Forest would have been unable to help migrating long ago.

So, even if Dumbledore was reluctant to admit it, the owner of this skeleton came from the underground world that only the headmaster could know.

And the basilisk was also among them. It probably lived in a place in the underground world that even the headmaster had no authority to know.

What are you looking at, is that person?

So, in that wonderful place, the basilisk is also there. Riddle was confused at first, but when he saw the skeleton, he understood it instantly.

What I am worried about now is whether the wizard came here for the basilisk or the underground world. Dumbledore supported his eyes.

Don't think too much, maybe that person just came to see the Chamber of Secrets, maybe the basilisk is fine. Riddle rolled his eyes and began to walk deeper into the tunnel.

Well, this is its skin, I think it's about twenty feet long. Dumbledore quickly adjusted his mood and looked at a huge snake skin.

It was coiled on the ground of the tunnel, green and bright, and empty inside.

Well, Christmas is coming soon. Riddle suddenly stopped.

You want it? Dumbledore looked at the snake skin again.

Riddle nodded, waved his wand, and accompanied by a blue beam of light, the snake skin began to shrink rapidly at a speed visible to the naked eye.

In less than a minute, only 3 inches of snake skin appeared in Riddle's hand.

As a colleague and his old leader, I think I should prepare a valuable Christmas gift for Severus, the thousand-year basilisk skin. Riddle stuffed the snake skin into his pocket.

I think you still don't give him anything, it's better to treat him as air, Severus will be more comfortable. Dumbledore followed Riddle who continued to walk forward.

Ta-da-da.

The sound of crisp and long footsteps came from the tunnel. After turning countless times, it seemed like a hundred years had passed before the end of the tunnel was reached. It was a solid wall with two snakes entwined with each other carved on it, with large, shining emeralds in their eyes.

Dumbledore did not speak, and Riddle walked straight forward, hissing in a low, hoarse voice, and opened it.

The two snakes separated, the stone wall cracked in the middle, slowly slid to both sides and disappeared, and the two walked in.

This was a long, dimly lit room, with many stone pillars carved with coiled and entangled snakes, towering to support the ceiling that melted into the darkness above, casting long and strange shadows on the entire room filled with green and mysterious mist.

The environment here is very suitable for being used as a haunted house in the Muggle world to scare people.

Even though Dumbledore and his companions took small steps and used very little strength, each step still produced a hollow and loud echo between the four walls full of ghosts.

When they walked parallel to the last pair of stone pillars, a statue as tall as the room itself suddenly appeared in front of them, clinging to the dark wall behind.

Riddle couldn't help but cover his forehead. He had long known what would appear in front of them.

And Dumbledore raised his head with curiosity. He knew that in this place, the only person who could leave a statue was Slytherin, one of the four giants of Hogwarts, the mysterious great wizard who never left any portrait!

Dumbledore lost his composure!

His pupils couldn't help shrinking, all because of this statue.

It was an old, monkey-like face, with a sparse long beard that almost dragged to the hem of the wizard's robe carved from stone, and two gray big feet standing on the smooth floor of the room.

Is this Slytherin? Dumbledore couldn't help rubbing his eyes.

Yes, this is Slytherin.

In fact, it is understandable. In the history of magic, all the descendants of Slytherin who left portraits, such as Gormlaith Gaunt, Isolt Sayer, and even my mother in the orphanage, were not famous for their looks, but were plain-looking.

So our ancestor Slytherin was naturally not a handsome man. As for me, I am an exception. My handsomeness comes from my Muggle father.

This is my mother's blessing, which makes me exactly like my Muggle father. Riddle couldn't help but laugh at himself.

It was at this time that Riddle began to doubt the source of his Slytherin blood.

In the summer after killing Myrtle, he found the Gaunt family and killed his father, Tom Riddle Sr., and his grandparents Thomas and Mary Riddle, on the grounds that they abandoned their mother Merope Gaunt.

His uncle Morfin Gaunt was framed by Riddle as the murderer of the murder and was sent to Azkaban.

Well, what about the basilisk? There is no trace of it sliding here. I think this room should not be where the basilisk usually stays.

It is probably in the space behind this statue, and that space may be connected to some pipes in the underground world. Dumbledore saw Riddle's loss of control and began to mention the real purpose of their coming here to divert Riddle's attention.

You guessed it, but you can also call the basilisk in this room. Maybe this is the ritual sense of Slytherin? Riddle showed a strange smile.

He is indeed not a pure Slytherin heir, at least not in terms of aesthetics.
